10:52 AM ET 02.16 | Carmelo Anthony says he is willing to accept less money to re-sign with the Knicks if it helps the team attract big-name free agents, according to published reports. "Without a doubt,'' Anthony said Friday while in New Orleans for All-Star Weekend. "Any opportunity I have to build that up in New York, I'd do it. I told people all the time, always say, 'If it takes me taking a pay cut, I'll be the first one on [Knicks owner] Mr. [James] Dolan's steps saying take my money and let's build something strong over here.'" Anthony has said he plans to opt out of the final year of his contract and test free agency this summer.

Does anyone associated with the knicks understand what's going on?

melo says he'll take less? great-
but does he realize that they cannot bring in any FA's cause even if he took 1$ that they are still far over the cap next year?
does he/they realize that they will have the EXACT same roster next year, except older? Is melo going to be patient and accept another year of stinking.....just for the possibility that they might be players in the FA market in 2015?

I think he's just throwing in statements so he won't have a PR disaster.

Ultimately he'll say, "I want to win, Knicks didn't show me a roadmap to get there, so I'm leaving".

Bottomline - he wants to leave. Which IMO is good for both.

Do you believe the guy? He understands what your saying that's why he can make himself look good by pretending he will take a paycut. Let's see if he will put his money where his mouth is. He can also take a paycut when joining a contending team. Do you think he would take a paycut to play w/ the Heat, Pacers, Thunder, Spurs, or Rockets? or even w/ the Warriors?

They need to use the stretch provision on Amare.

He'll take less money and stay with the Knicks " if it helps the team attract big-name free agents".

And that's the catch that everyone who has posted to this thread so far understands. It's an empty promise, because he knows the pay-cut does nothing to help the Knicks situation next year. This is just a statement to avoid a mini version of "the decision".

I give Melo props for repping here he's from unlike Lebron he ditched his own people to win rings in Miami. Melo's the man. He's sticking with him people through thick and thin. Even if he doesn't win here he'll be respected forever.

Taking on the challenge of winning the hard way saids a lot about him.

Let's go NY.. Melo's home!

Well, at least he will take a hometown discount until the negotiations start...

I think it would be good for both teams if they move him at the deadline.

this team cannot improve for 2 years.
and at that point melo will be like 32

I think he wants to win. But I don't think he realizes that he cannot win playing the iso system that he refuses to give up.
I think he would take a paycut-
but not a ridiculous one-
remember - he is due to earn 25 mil per on the next deal
I think that if he were to do what lbj/wade/bosh did and all take the same, but less- he would do that-
but he won't go somewhere where someone is out-earning him

Melo, one of the most overrated players in the history of the NBA. Who cares where he goes? Unless he has KD or LeBron on his team, he ain't getting no rings...

Under dolan w/that extra melo $ he'll prolly give it 2 jason collins & anthony bennet.

Why keep Amare? This makes no sense at all.
