Did Saban sway Miami recruit?

Four months after his criticized departure from the Dolphins, Alabama coach Nick Saban received a celebrity-type reception at one school when he returned to Dilliard High School for a recruiting trip last week. Miami Northwestern DT Marcus Fortson and Hollywood Chaminade-Madonna LB Jordan Futch -- two of the top junior prospects in South Florida -- spoke with Saban and said he left a good impression. Saban also approached Northwestern offensive lineman Brandon Washington, a Miami oral commitment. 'He asked me if my heart was in Miami. I said, `No,' '' Washington said, adding there's a good chance he will sign with UM but wants to take other visits.

These stupid football players are too easily duped by the slimeballs of the world. Just say no to Nick "the Trick" Satan!

May 21, 2007  11:47 AM ET

have fun getting **** kicked bama. saban will leave your team for greener grass in a year or two.

May 21, 2007  12:09 PM ET

Maybe someone should remind Ticky Nick that its an NCAA violation to speak to prospects face to face during an evaluation period.

May 21, 2007  06:06 PM ET

"These stupid football players"? They???re high school kids for crying out load! Why don???t you take another sip of hateraid you weak wristed geek. Its not like bringing these kids to Bama is a bad thing, UA is one of the nations top public universities. Oh yeah and we are 12 time national champs. Hope yall enjoy watching us win number 13, coach Saban and I will.

Nick the trick, will skip out on bama in 2 years, for more money, just like he did with the dolphins, you are all stupid to think this scheister, will win a championship. He will build up his team, then when the are ready to take it over the the top, he will slink out for another job for money, because he does not have the fortitude to ride it out, he will jump ship for $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

May 21, 2007  11:58 PM ET

There is no way on earth that those superstar city boys leave SoBe to go to Alabama.

May 22, 2007  02:52 AM ET

If you think Nick will fail and leave Bama in a couple of years , you are crazy! He is eating up the way the fans are adoring him. Plus with the amount of money at his disposal to " buy " players, he will sign the top class in the nation within two years - heck maybe the top class next year. You will watch Bama in the BCS Title game within three years ! Mark it down ! He will win at Alabama and he will win BIG ! As for Shula , I have always liked him. The BAMA vs Florida games in the future will be fun to watch!

May 22, 2007  08:19 AM ET

"Oh yeah and we are 12 time national champs."

Why do Alabama fans always have to bring up the past? That has no bearing on the present or the future. Granted Shula was treated unfairly, but Alabama and their AD can only blame themselves for this mess. For years, they insisted on hiring a coach that it some way was involved with the Bear, either as a coach or player. They (meaning the school and the fans) couldn't get over the fact that Bear was gone and were hoping that a coach related to him would rekindle that magic. It didn't work, so now they've opted to overpay for a coach who has a history of jumping at the next great opportunity (i.e. more money).

Fans, in general, wanted to forgive DuBose's actions since they had a good year when the incident occurred. What happened the next year when they had a terrible record? They were screaming for his head, saying he should have been fired the previous year when the scandal broke. A number of fans were calling for Stallings' head in his first season when Alabama lost its first two or three games. In general, Alabama fans have no patience -- they want it all now. They think Saban is the answer and didn't care that the school grossly overpaid for him. If Saban doesn't win immediately or if he can't beat Auburn (one of the reasons Shula, and years ago Curry, was let go), he will start to feel the heat and if the "next big opportunity" is there in a few years, he will lie and say he's staying at Alabama until the new school's press conference announces him as their next overpaid coach.

Good grief! Reading these comments, I suspect not one of you is older than 12. if you are, then you really need to evaluate your life and your maturity level.

May 22, 2007  09:06 AM ET

You gotta love the Bama haters. They act like it is their money that is paying Saban. Let the man earn his wage, and while you're moaning and groaning, I'd like to see you Florida guys and gals complain about the new salary of Donavan.

May 22, 2007  10:54 AM ET

Alabama a top public university? You must be kidding - it's nothing more than a football factory with the academcis of a (mediocre) junior college. And 12 national champinoships? Again, you must be kidding - Bama has 7 legitimate, wire-service national titles. Very impressive, but a far cry from 12. You're almost as bad as USC (which has 6 and claims something like 12) or Michigan (which has 2 but claims something like 15).

May 22, 2007  11:20 AM ET

If Saban leaves Alabama for more $$$$$ as many of you believe, then it will be because he has been successful at Alabama. Who in there right mind would offer him even more money unless he had just won another National Championship.or two!

I hope someone does come after him with more $$$$$$$$$$$$!!!

Roll Tide!!!

May 22, 2007  11:22 AM ET

Ha!! Saban sucks, but these kids owe it to themselves to weigh all of their options and go to the place that they think best suits them.

May 22, 2007  12:34 PM ET

Gotta love the way people love to hate Bama. We are like Jason to the football world. Hurricanes come and go, but the Tide will roll forever!

May 22, 2007  03:40 PM ET

HURRICANES COME AND GO WE'VE HAD 2 LOSING SEASONS(WHICH TO MOST SCHOOLS IS A **** GOOD RECORD)! WHAT HAS ALABAMA DONE! NOBOBY HATES UA! I FORGOT THEY STILL HAD A TEAM!

May 23, 2007  09:48 PM ET

The Hurricanes can't even fill up their pathetic, decrepit stadium for a good team. Last year when the team was having a down year, they couldn't even fill half of the seats in the stadium. Maybe the Hurricanes need to focus on getting their own fans to show interest in their football team before they start focusing on other schools.

May 23, 2007  10:56 PM ET

It shows you the character of the players that they would trust a weasel

May 31, 2007  09:45 PM ET

Question! If you were looking for a new job and your current employer ask you "are you happy here?" how in the h*ll would you answer that question? Bet you would act like the good little employee and lie **** off and pick up the intensity of your job search because they were on to you.

College athletes transfer in/out of universities based on wanting to be closer to home, get more playing time, etc. So is asking a recruit if he has thought the process through wrong? Only if you are still p*ssed off in South Florida.

Quit your bitching about Saban and turn your attention to Donovan at Florida. Does 5-6 million dollars a year sound good or the fact that he is turning his back on 3.5 million and the Gator Nation o.k.? Oh, that's right he want deny the rumors - sounds so familiar.
