Mysterious market for Jimenez

07:34 AM ET 02.17 | While pitchers and catchers have reported, veteran righty Ubaldo Jimenez remains without a team, though perhaps not for much longer. [Jimenez] is drawing interest from the Orioles, and perhaps also the Mariners, in addition to the Blue Jays. The Jimenez market has been mostly a mystery since it was said by a source familiar with his situation that he was being pursued by the Jays and two other unnamed teams. One of those teams is likely the Orioles, and another could well be the Mariners. It isn't known whether more teams have joined the fray since that comment was made a few weeks back. All three of those teams -- Baltimore, Toronto and Seattle -- were also reported here Saturday to be looking at Ervin Santana, the other free-agent pitcher.

The problem is, you don't know which Jimenez you will get. The good one or the terrible one?

or what he wants.

This may be why no team wants to sign him to a multi-year contract without taking a test drive on a 1 yr deal first.

Also pretty fishy how he went from BP pitcher to ace, right before he entered free agency.

He's probably been getting the Bartolo Colon treatment someplace.

i guess its the Orioles the misterious team, and who else?the mets the marlins the astros??

February 17, 2014  01:33 PM ET

The Orioles are not going to sign either Jimenez or Santana. No change Angelos gives either a multi year contract and gives up a number one pick.

February 17, 2014  02:03 PM ET

the Orioles have show heavy interest in both free agents lately,Ubaldo Jimenez andErvin Santana are about to be teammates in the Orioles Organization!!

Jimenez and Santana have a very similiar situation, both players are alike the y pitch good one season, then next season is a down season, but is clear both pitchers finished the 2013 season strong
and did had a good numbers back in the 2013,except in the 2014 season means it will be a down season which it means,,,bad timming and bad luck for both sides, the teams who are interested in the players and the players themselves!!

that would be one of the big problems the contract/the draft pick/but the real problem would be the inability in the pitchers to perform as a real conssistent starters!!!

now,one year deal would be the right thing to do for any team, but they still would have to give up their first draft pick, either way the team/s lose!!

I didn't realize he was tendered an offer from Cleveland.

As a Jays fan I am really looking forward to the euphoric optimism about him I will feel from the moment he signs until the point mid-way through the season when he's shut down with a shoulder problem after making a dozen inconsistent starts.

Two points for realism.

Anyone think that an injury during spring training will make Ubaldo more appealing?

February 17, 2014  08:18 PM ET

He's signing with the O's. Terms N/A.

There is now literally no pitcher I would want the Jays to sign. Bailey is about to sign an extension, I don't like Samardzija especially given what he would cost in prospects, and Santana would give up approximately 1,000,000 homers pitching in Toronto.
