Raiders have $64M to burn this offseason

06:51 AM ET 02.18 | Here's where Raiders fans hope that with all the purchasing power that Oakland makes the right calls. [GM] Reggie McKenzie is projected to have close to $64 million in cap space -- more than any team in the NFL. It's a good thing, too, because McKenzie's roster is littered with holes. The most valuable players on offense (Jared Veldheer) and defense (Lamarr Houston) -- as well as the roster's best talent (Darren McFadden) -- are due to hit free agency. In a make-or-break season for McKenzie and coach Dennis Allen, the 2014 Raiders will bear little resemblance to the 4-12 squad that closed out the 2013 season. ... Even if a veteran quarterback such as Josh Freeman is reunited with offensive coordinator Greg Olson, the position will likely be addressed early in the draft.

I don't think I can name more than 3 players on the Raiders roster without looking it up and 2 are QB's.

That's about right. He's had his hands tied because of Mad Al's wild spending. Problem is, the Raiders are more than just a couple players away from becoming relevant again. Some patience is required.

They do not have to spend it all this year, you can move unspent cap money into future years. Carry over. McKenzie did a good job of cleaning house, now time for him to , as Otis says, earn his money. He may do very well, he is no fool.

Malcolm Smith came out of nowhere to win the Superbowl MVP. The Raiders could pay him 30 million dollars, and still have plenty of money to sign Richie Incognito. His name's been in the news a lot, so he must be good.
What? Al Davis is dead? OK. Forget it.

The Raiders will find a way to mess up their money and draft choices this year and when the smoke clears we can say the same old thing - It just the Raiders.

No no, he's just stunned.

They can finally start building something solid..... hopefully for any Raiders fans sake they don't blow it.

Yes they can, but if they are smart, yes i said that, they will not force the issue at QB if the right guy is not out there. fix all the things you can around that position first. Sounds backwards, but if a QB you believe in is not there, then don't try to make him up.

Yep. This is where they need to hit a homerun.

Start with a QB and find a running back that ain't hurt all the time.

I heard Josh Freeman was going to go to the 49ers. Oakland needs to draft themselves a QB. They need to use that cap money to sign some team leaders .

So they'll use up about 1/2 the $ on the next Marc Wilson? The next JaMarcus Russell?

Incognito should be available for that leadership role.

If you're going to burn it, why don't you give me 5 of it. And I promise I'll burn it.

I'd say for a double and a couple of singles at this point.
