Knicks after Teague

06:56 AM ET 02.18 | Brooklyn isn't New York's only team looking to add at least a player. Atlanta Hawks point guard Jeff Teague has emerged as an appealing trade target for the New York Knicks, sources with knowledge of the situation told ESPN.com. Sources told ESPN.com that the Knicks, leading into Thursday's 3 p.m. ET trade deadline, are calling all over the league in an attempt to upgrade at point guard. Teague's name has surfaced as a prime target given the Knicks' increasing fears that their longstanding top choice -- Toronto's Kyle Lowry -- will not be made available before the deadline, according to sources. The Knicks have been chasing Lowry all season, as ESPN.com first reported in November. But sources indicate that Lowry and his advisers expect to finish the season in Toronto.

I like Teague.... of all the crazy trade scenarios, this is the one I hope does not happen. (sorry Knickerbocker fans)

Teague is a steady pg, not top ten .....
He will not help NY
And he has a decently sized long term deal......
Not a smart direction.

Now, he could help a different team.......but not ny

So.....you don't believe he better than what NY already has?

he is better than felton-
but not better enough to change NY's fortunes and give up assets for.

he's also earning 8 mil for the next 4 years

thing is - melo won't respect him enough to 'adjust' to him,
so bringing in a pg without any gravitas basically neuters them
his #s would appreciably drop

Why can't he help NY? He scores better than Felton a better passer and attacks the paint better. He is 25 with 3 more years on his deal so not sure what the big deal is there. He is struggling with the 3's this year.

as I said in the last part of post #5
its that the system NY runs to cater to melo
basically neuters pg's

if he was a chris paul type- who has a big resume
melo MIGHT allow the system to change....
but he simply won't with a nobody.

again- he is better than felton- but he's making double what felton is and he's not 2x the player felton is.

Knicks should give up on the season and try and land Kyrie Irving to pair with Melo next season. All these mickey mouse attempts to land guys like Teague and Lowry are pointless...

That is part coach part player. The coach has to make changes first. Long term Woody is probably not the coach so I don't know what system will be ran but what being ran only works when Melo is on and 3pt shooters are on. I wouldn't equate salary to player worth per say. Lower level players are worth less. Teague fits in the about average to good range so that is what he is making

Knicks know they can't land Kyrie as the Cav's are not trading him and they own his rights so the Cav's can match any offer. Would Kyrie prefer to be on the Knicks probably so but doesn't look like it is happening. This is why they are going after good alternatives in Teague and Lowry

I don't think humanity would survive if Kyrie moved to gothan

it's be like in Ghostbusters when streams crossed.

Even if the Cavs match it doesn't mean he'll go back. It just means it is up to him if he wants to bolt or not and force a sign and trade instead. He can easily walk and take less then what the Cavs are offering.

I totally agree. Don't repeat the "dolan maneuver" & gut the team mid-season 2 get Melo, when they could've waited until the end. Unless beno, bargnani or meta peace is involved in the trade I don't want 2 hear it.

I am not disputing that blame is all around
And I wasn't equating salary ~ worth

but

in this particular case-
Teague isn't elevating the knicks to contenders
he is an average pg, granted young- but he also is making 8 mil per year
and if they bring him in now it could potentially cost them from getting a bigger player down the road

Teague isn't a significant upgrade over felton-
he is an upgrade
but its not like they are bringing in a top 10 pg

well said-
problem is the knicks have employed that philosophy for the last 10 years and I fear nothing will change.
