Dempster's future in Chicago

07:01 AM ET 02.18 | Ryan Dempster never did retire when he chose to pass on the riches Boston was willing to throw his way in Boston. Could [Dempster] play a role in the Cubs' rebuilding plans after all? Team officials aren't ready or able to discuss whether they would be open to a reunion with the veteran pitcher they traded away two summers ago. ... Would the draw of returning to the team he never wanted to leave and pitching again in the neighborhood where he keeps a home motivate him to meet the Cubs on their terms on a modest, short-term deal? Maybe in a bullpen or swingman role? And how attractive would the longtime fan favorite and clubhouse leader be to a team with a handful of pitching prospects expected to start arriving about then?

Would the Cubs want a reunion?

I wonder if Dempster knew he might be headed to the bullpen in Boston, and didn't relish the thought...

Do they think he might put them into the playoffs? Why would Chicago do this?

I think he wanted to cut bait before he became trade bait.

But why would he give up 13.5M, just because he didn't want to pitch out of the pen? This is really strange.
