Can O'Brien ignore Clowney?

06:52 AM ET 02.18 | So many of the eyes in Indy will be trained on Central Florida quarterback Blake Bortles. Can Bortles be the first selection in this year's draft? It is uncertain as to whether or not he'll throw in Indy, but new Houston Texans head coach Bill O'Brien knows his quarterbacks. And he also will be able to get the inside scoop on Bortles from UCF head coach George O'Leary, who was the head coach at Georgia Tech when O'Brien was on that staff. O'Brien also witnessed UCF beat his Penn State squad last year. Bortles has deceptive athleticism and nice touch on his throws. Even if O'Brien likes him as a future franchise signal-caller, it might be hard for Houston to not select South Carolina defensive end Jadeveon Clowney or possibly even trade the pick.

What a deceiving title. Do they cut and paste the wrong text? The whole thing is about Bortles and Clowney is only mentioned once.

The 'silly season' of speculation is starting to take off. But yeah...the headline does not match the story. FN..go figure!

You thinking about 16 teams, Otis?

I don't think O'Brien will be ignoring anyone.

It the Texans think Schaub can still perform they could take Clowney, and trade down for more picks, or take a QB themselves with the first overall pick.

Oh please the solution is kind of simple isn't it. If they feel that a Clowney shores up the defense and helps them stop other teams and that there are a host of fine QB's available, problem solved. If they think the best QB's are in that first round then its busts city, good by Clowney. How hard is that to figure out. My take, they don't need a Clowney as much as a QB.

that would work!

He better get a decent QB or it's gonna be another loooong year.

What they could have said is this will be an interesting draft.

Why not give him another year. You don't see the NYG's talking about firing Eli Manning. His season may have been an aberration. In the mean time they should rebuild the rest of their team and then think about QB's next season.

I agree that if they feel they can trade down then they should do it .

Schaub is a good, but not great, QB. The offense was too predictable leading to many of his interceptions. After Foster got hurt, things went downhill. IMO, they should trade down for more picks, give Schaub one more chance to return to form, keep developing Case Kenum, and look for a franchise QB in 2015 if Schaub and Kenum don't improve.
