Big scare for Team Sweden

07:07 AM ET 02.18 | When you have a young defenseman with Norris Trophy talent, you take the good with the bad -- which Team Sweden learned this week with Erik Karlsson. The Swedes have a joke about [Karlsson]: He has one speed, and that's wrecking ball. They are on him about slowing down in practice, though, because [Monday] morning at Bolshoy Training Rink, Karlsson knocked down star goaltender Henrik Lundqvist giving chase to Loui Eriksson, and wiped out star scorer Daniel Alfredsson of the Detroit Red Wings. "That's a tough thing," Alfredsson said, "because he really wanted to catch Loui on the breakaway and threw himself down, and Henrik was trying to make the save, and they just pummeled each other. We can laugh at it now because it wasn't too serious, but it gave everybody a big scare."

It's Just Practice, Bros.

If the boy could learn how to play positionally-sound defense in his own zone, he might actually be worth a Norris.

"[Monday] morning .... Karlsson knocked down star goaltender Henrik Lundqvist giving chase to Loui Eriksson ....

..... who apparently stole the meatballs that Granny Karlsson packed for him for lunch."

Those silly Swedes.

I don't really care if Karlsson knocks Team Sweden's goalie out. But I do care if he knocks the Rangers goalie out!

Agreed.

Actually I read/heard? a discussion about the 2 of them. Both gifted offensively but which was better defensively?

It was unanimous that PK Chelios was the better guy in his own end. Less of a liability, and more physical.

No matter what Sexy Rexy says.....

I didn't see anything on my channels.

But that would be NYI sweeping Oilers?

I've mentioned that series previously as the first series I ever had a VHS VCR for? Working the nightshift on a forklift (truth and a Marley reference) and all the dipshots I worked with would try to spoil the results for me since I was no longer bringing my 5" B&W TV to work so they could watch. They were too cheap to buy their own VCR and expected me to bring them all home after work to view. No chance of that of course.

It was my first SC Final where I had to maintain full media silence while at work. Unlike the first Isles Cup win when I was working and had to make do with radio updates and highlights once home...
