Chicago's dream pick

07:29 AM ET 02.19 | If Florida State defensive tackle Timmy Jernigan is on the board by the 14th pick in the NFL's draft, the Bears might run, not walk, to make the selection. "I think you'd sprint to the podium," NFL Network's draft guru [Mike Mayock] said Tuesday. The Bears' confirmation Tuesday that they're keeping a 4-3 base defensive front -- while reserving the right to be unpredictable -- makes the second-team All-American, already a popular target for the Bears among mock drafters, an even better match at this week's NFL combine. ... [The Bears] are looking to add pass rushers both in free agency and -- after combine evaluations that start Thursday in Indianapolis -- the draft. Problem is, so is everyone else. Missouri's Kony Ealy wouldn't be a reach at No. 14, Mayock said.

It's silly season.

Figures the Bears'd want a DT named "Timmy". The position hasn't been the same since Tommie Harris left

Amen. Jernigan, Ealy, Nix, blah blah blah. This is really about Mayuck's "who cares?" opinions, not the Bears.

How does one become a Draft Guru? If it just includes guessing without actual fact or knowledge, I have been one for years.

It's kind of like being a scout, only with more celebrity and no accountability

Hey, Mayock said it, its chiseled in stone and signed in blood. Where do you sign up for a job like that?

Maybe they could trade Cutler and move up. Or would they move up.

He looked really out of shape against Auburn. He was on the sideline a lot in the 4th quarter.

He did, which is strange. I know there's a month between their last regular season game and the game against Auburn but you should still be in your best condition by the end of the season. Assuming you're not injured of course.

Bears could have 4 new starters on the d-line next year. Peppers is too expensive and is likely to be cut, Wootton is a free agent and the Bears don't seem too keen to keep him, Melton is coming off an injury so the Bears might not want to give him a long term deal and they have finally realized that Shea McClellin is NOT a DE.

Jernigan makes sense for Chicago but they have a lot of work to do on the D-line .......... and the defense as a whole.

Go figure. They finally get the offense figured out and the D goes rocketing into the toilet.

Yeah. O arrow points up to respectability, D arrow down to disgrace. Painful to watch, esp. GB"s last winning touchdown that put the Bears out of the playoffs. Very painful.

Bears need the second coming of Dent, Singletary and crew.

Finally some good news for the Cowboys. They finally won on coin flipping over the Ravens, way to go Mr. Jones.
