Czech Republic can't escape fractured label

07:44 AM ET 02.19 | Since opening the Olympic games by giving up four consecutive goals to Sweedn, the Czech Republic has, with the exception of letting Slovakia open the door to a comeback, put together a little roll. As for those reports of dysfunction -- for example, the Globe and Mail writing that some of the Czech players are "apparently not even on speaking terms with" coach Alois Hadamczik -- [veteran defenseman Tomas Kaberle] dismissed them. "I don't know who's writing about it," he said. "We're on the same page. Everybody's here to do one thing, to compete hard, and this is the best tournament in the world, and you want to finish first. There's no fights in the dressing room, or anything like that."

This board will be interesting after Friday's game. While I live and work in the US my allegiance in hockey is to the Maple Leaf - the red and white NOT the blue and white.

I am expecting a tough game and taking nothing for granted.

I've said all along that there was no way Russia was going to win gold.

Now they won't even win a parting gift for showing up. At least on the game shows losing contestants would get a toaster oven or something. Talk about a wheel of misfortune for what used to be the Big Red Machine.

The Czech Senior Citizen contingent must be getting a huge emotional lift from Finn seniors Teemu Selanne and Kimmo Timmonen.

Posted Tuesday February 11, 2014, About: Team USA's opening lines based on balance

That's my pick for the top two with the bronze going either to Canada or US. I won't count Finland out either. Hot goal-tending (which they have plenty of) might just be enough to relegate Canada and US to 'also run' status.

Damn! If feels good to feel smart once in a while at my age! :-)
