10:11 AM ET 02.20 | The New York Islanders shipped their captain, John Tavares, off to Sochi, Russia, to compete in the 2014 Winter Olympic for Team Canada, but it may have cost them more than they would have imagined. According to reports, Tavares may need surgery to repair a torn medial collateral ligament and a torn meniscus in his left knee. If surgery is necessary, that would obviously knock him out for the rest of the NHL season. Tavares leads the team with 66 points and has only missed four games throughout his four years with the team, but the Olympic ice did not prove to be as kind.

The precise reason why only the best world juniors should compete in the Olympics. The olympics are for "non professionals", Summer and Winter.

Nancy Kerrigan would like that surgery name changed to Mad Slasher Surgery.
