Knicks driving 'Melo away

07:28 AM ET 02.21 | In New York, the trade deadline came and went -- something Knicks fans hope isn't about to happen with Carmelo Anthony. [Anthony] said last week that he was very interested in re-signing this offseason as long as the Knicks showed him a strong plan to become a title contender again. Making a big splash prior to the trade deadline would have been one way to impress Anthony. A source familiar with the circumstances said New York was "close" to a deal that would have brought a much-needed point guard Darren Collison and forward Matt Barnes in exchange for point guard Raymond Felton and shooting guard Iman Shumpert. But it didn't happen. The Knicks' brass might have to work some magic on draft night to impress Anthony before free agency begins.

Lord Cuban really messed up this team.....LMAO.....

If the Knicks want to win anything they need to part ways with Anthony. There is a difference between having a superstar that puts up good numbers and being able to win a championship. Melo has a completely different game but the impact he has upon his team reminds me a lot of Allan Iverson...great individual player...can't win with him.

Melo was gone once he said that he was testing free agency and also said the team wasn't good enough. Man, was he right when he said it last summer.

For the Knicks not to have even just moved garbage for garbage just shows the incompetence and how delusional they are.

Just Leave, Bro.

This is a real dumb opinion, The Answer was truly the Answer in his prime at philly, he took a bunch of average no name players to the finals and the team was always near the top of the east when he was there, people tend to forget how GOOD AI really was back in philly, yes he efffed up his career and was selfish but he was a leader and a player that carried the team on his back

I think the knicks lost melo by not making a trade to try to improve, something had to be done melo wants management that does there best to bring in talent

The Knicks would've been able to move Shump had he not have gotten hurt the night before. It's probably a good thing nothing worked out for them. This will be a very telling offseason for the Knicks though

People stop comparing Melo to Allen Iverson. The only thing they had in common was they were scorers. AI was great even won MVP probably the best pound for pound scorer in the NBA. AI was a SG 6'0" was inefficient but could not be stopped. AI off the court is another thing but on the court he was a beast. AI defensive skills go unmentioned but he was one of the best at playing the passing lanes and stealing the ball.

Knicks have a plan. It's called NoPlan.

Back to the article. They waited too late to make the move and Shumpert got hurt. This is a wasted season for the Knicks. Unless Melo knows another big time player is coming there is no reason to stay IMO.

Iverson got to an NBA final. Without looking it up Shiberpine, can you even name two other players from that team? That team overachieved!! Csn anyone name two other players from that team?

He's been talking about testing free agency long before the trade deadline.

Dumb opinion? No such thing...an opinion is an opinion. AI was a scorer and yes, he took a horrible team to the finals. My exact words were that there was "a difference between having a superstar that puts up good numbers and being able to win a championship" Last I checked the 76ers lost in the finals...that means no championship.

The reason why the Sixers were so good was because they were good defensively. AI was the scorer and everyone else just filled in the rest and played defense.

SG AI
PG Snow
SF Lynch
PF Hill
C Mutumbo

Mckie and Kukoc off the bench and Geiger. The closest equivalent I have seen to that squad was the Bulls but even they don't compare as Rose wasn't an AI and they probably had slightly better offensive players. This is why I say Melo needs to be surrounded by elite defenders and just let him do the majority of the scoring

That's exactly right. Some guys are nothing but scorers. George Gervin comes to mind as does Dominique Wilkins. Their BB IQ's are just not good enough to understand that there is more to the sport than just putting up 25-30 points.
