Ervin Santana doesn't want Nelson Cruz-type deal

09:43 AM ET 02.23 | As D.J. Short wrote earlier, free agent starter Ervin Santana is drawing interest from several teams including the Orioles and Rangers. But as Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports reports, the right-hander says he would rather sit out until June -- draft pick compensation disappears after the draft -- than take a deal similar to the one-year, $8 million contract outfielder Nelson Cruz signed with the Orioles earlier today. The $8 million Cruz will be paid is significantly lower than the $14.1 million qualifying offer he rejected from the Rangers in November.

He is correct. Any free agent worth diddly out there now with draft compensation in the way will get more after the June draft....

wise move by Santana, draft pick has been a block to the free agents,if Cruz rejected the rangers offer
there was a reason, why Santana doesn't want the Royals offer?because he wants more money and more years, but he couuld ended sitting the whole season or get signed for a year or two by mid-june,
after all Santana can do whatever its beneficiall for him!!

The Yankees may be looking to replace Tanaka in the rotation by then.............

Holding his breath and stomping his feet isn't going to get him paid any more. The season is almost half over by June. He's not getting more than $8 million in June. He should have take the qualifying offer.
