07:35 AM ET 02.25 | As the losses pile up -- five in a row and counting -- Boston now has a sidebar headline. [The] team is still hoping to straighten things out with Rajon Rondo after his decision to stay in Los Angeles and not accompany the team to Sacramento for Saturday's game. While some were displeased by the move, for which Rondo did not receive official permission, others pointed out he was not scheduled to play in the game anyway. ... Multiple sources say he remained in LA for a birthday celebration. He turned 28 on Saturday. The captain didn't want to get into the matter before last night's 110-98 loss to the Jazz. "We already talked about it," Rondo said. "There's nothing to talk about." That doesn't appear to be the case. President of basketball operations Danny Ainge said [Monday] he is still looking into the situation.

More like scrutiny than scutiny! Scutiny doesn't sound good...

Anyways, it's tank mode time so it won't matter. It's better to satisfy the lone superstar left on the team.

There is no way in hell rondo is re-upping with this team
He's already one foot out the door

Change the name to Melo and it would be the same thing...

Oh I agree, for sure.

I think melo has finally realized that making the most possible $ isn't worth being on a team with incompetent ownership/management.

There is no way he stays for another losing year with the same roster....

Yup, he said that the team sucks last summer after he said he would test free agency. I killed him for saying that but I guess he was right.

Rondo can be a little head strong at times. It really may b in Boston's best interest to move him at this point. You don't need him passing a bad attitude to the younger kids.

What if I came on here and said that pg X had been in the league for 8 seasons and his career numbers were 11 ppg, 8 asts, and 4.5 rebs. Then that player shot 25% from 3 land and only 62% from the FT line..........would you tell me he is a "superstar" then?

Rondo had major success early in his career that was nothing more than being on the right team at the right time........I personally don't think he can captain a team and he sure can't be the "best" player on the team if that team is going anywhere......

Given the options of Melo or Rondo.......I choose Melo 100 out of 100 times.....#keepit100

Stay In LA, Bro.

What if I told you that Player A was 6th on the list of all time Playoff triple doubles and player B was 7th on that same list. Would you tell me that both must be superstars? Well I'll tell you that player A is LeBron James and Player B is Rajon Rondo. I DO NOT think Rondo is a superstar but I do think he's got game, he needs a coach to keep him in check and obviously some help (as does any player in the NBA) and he will be just fine.

That being said, It would be hard for me to take him over Melo.

I would probably take Rondo over Melo just because of the way he gets everyone else involved and his commitment to both sides of the ball. He's more complete as a player.

I thinks it's common knowledge that any list that doesn't have MJ in the top 10 is a list that can not be used........

Valid point. His D is relentless. and is always in the top 3 in the league in assists.

Rondo is only worth his weight in gold if you have a bonafide scorer on the roster to compliment his game.

He's never gonna average 20ppg. But, he could average a triple dub under the right circumstances.

That's why I say he'd be money for the Rox, Knicks, Kings or Lakers if they had a Mamba with 2 functional legs.

Wow - Knicks waive World Peace and Beno Udrih yesterday then Felton gets arrested this morning on serious gun charges. What more is there to say?

So, say you are starting a team and you could have either Melo or Rondo with your first signing.....who do you take?

I need more info with this before i make a proper judgement. He stayed behind for his birthday, not the worst of crimes especially if he wasn't even due to play. I think i'm in the minority when i think the celtics should trade him ASAP while the iron is hot. As mecca pointed out, rondo is never gonna be a great scorer and his value isn't quite as high as it appeared afew years ago. I doubt they will, but if i'm the celtics i'm considering all options for rondo
