07:38 AM ET 02.25 | Can a brand new year bring about a renewed B.J. Upton? When Braves hitting coach Greg Walker drove to Tampa in January to watch [Upton] take batting practice, he had a chance to view the mechanical adjustments the veteran outfielder made this past offseason. ... Recognizing that fathers often have a solid feel for their son's swing, Walker talked to Manny Upton multiple times last summer and kept in touch with him throughout this past winter, when the elder Upton made multiple visits to Tampa to help his son. The fatherly advice helped create the adjustments that led the Braves center fielder to come to Spring Training with a stance that is much less upright than the one that was seen last year. "He was trying to tell me the same thing last year," Upton said.

Not sure about the new part, but he would have to be improved. This guy absolutely stunk last year. He was so bad, he made Adam Dunn look okay.

B J Upton needs to become more aggresive in the home plate,in every at bat discipline and and patience works by the hand,or the Braves would need to add Barry Bonds or Chipper Jones as Upton's hitting coach!!

can't blame Upton for his poor performance at the plate last season, rather the Braves are to blame know why??because they sign him for a long term contract and now they are stuck,(Uggla)is another failure as a player!!

They're worried about The Wrong Upton.

Yeah, Kate's hitting stance needs some serious adjustments. She has trouble getting the bat around those extra "pecks".

I didn't like his game when he was with the Rays.

apparently the Braves were well satified with Upton stats except,,,too many GM forget the stats aren't going to move with the player to a different organization, and higher baseball playing level, teams should learn from mistakes and the Braves as so many other teams forget that, when Braves signed Uggla they thought they had have hit the lottery except everything was a failure from the start,

the Angels kept making mistakes after mistakes,in fact they went so confuse and dissoriented that in one night signed Pujols and CJ Wilson to a hefty and albastros contracts to the point the halos organization can't hardly breath,Angels were investing in the players old stats as if the stats were going to be playing in place of the newly signed players!!

February 25, 2014  11:45 PM ET

Halos still refuse to lose and return next year by signing Hamilton to another hefty contract, just to get the same bitter taste in their mouth why?Hamilton would fail to contribute as a run producer and the team failed miserable!!

February 25, 2014  11:48 PM ET

there are several teams who FORGET what and which is the number one needs in a team,PITCHING,
PITCHING,PITCHING,CATCHING,CATCHING,CATCHING,,,still don't get it??no tough pitching no wins, but no tough pitching and no tough disciplined catching the results are by far a total lost,

QUOTE(#12):

and no tough disciplined catching the results are by far a total lost

i mean if the catching its unable to drive runs but has great deffense don't worried about the offense
just focus in the great and disciplined deffense,if the catching drives runs in but his deffense its a dissaster likely the games lead are about to be vanish and ending losing the game over and over,
did the catcher offense helped at all??i mean he drove 5 runs and hit for the cicle but the team still lost the game, why?poor performance as a deffensive catcher!!

QUOTE(#13):

poor performance as a deffensive catcher

when i said poor performance as a catcher i'm refering to how poor the game was called, how poor he manage the game with the starter pitcher, a lack of motivation, and a lack of experienced and disciplined catcher is been missed in the team's lineup!!

one thing i like about the Rays this year,i hope i'm not wrong the Rays with Ryan Hannigan as their regular catcher, the games should be a+3 if not more than that know why?Hannigan has a great deal of discipline under his belt and things either go upstream or straight downstream, but there is no worse thing to do than the one's the team do,you have to risk to win,you have to try in order to see positive results,,

this year i hope the Rays really take over the east division and if that don't happen then i do expect them to be a tough competetor in the top 3 teams in the east!!
