Bosh: Ban all slurs

07:29 AM ET 02.27 | With the NFL considering further policing of on-the-field language, what do athletes in other sports think? [The Heat's] Chris Bosh said the league would have to do more than just single out one derogatory term. The NFL is discussing plans of penalizing a player for using it during games. "I'm OK with it [the penalty] but then it gets tricky," Bosh said. "What's if I say this? It's a bunch of other things I could say and not get a penalty. I think if you bring anything in, you've got to bring them all in. I think that will work out a lot better." ... "A lot of people say, 'I'm not racist because I use it in a friendly way.' Like I said, if you're going to use one word, put them all in there, use every slur, every negative curse word and that will kind of simplify it a little bit. I think it's too gray."

I do too! If only because I want to hear how creative these guys can get! Anyone juvenile can throw out a few crude slurs to get under an opponents skin, but lets see how Garnett gets his point across without cursing or name calling....

QUOTE(#2):

Bosh has been the lone gay player in the league until recently so I can see why he's pushing the envelope. That said if you ban all slur words there's still going to be synonyms for those words and the synonyms have synonyms so you can't really change the meaning of words people use. For example these words can be substituted to get the same steven spielberg effects.- Gay/Bosh- Hole/Gloria- Punk/Lebron- STD/Wade- Jerk/Kobe- Dumb/Knicks- Arsehole/Kevin- Bonehead/Rondo- Muthaforker/Delonte- Chicken/Melo- Real Dumb/ Hardaway/Eva- Shady/Howard- Whoore/Wade- Ugly/DirkI can make a lot of sentences with those words.

"Shutty! Before I jam a Wade-covered Melo in your Dirk Wade Gloria!"

They say that a certain percentage of the population are of the gay persuasion. I expect 10% of the posters here, i.e. Frenchie, to be in that category.

Countdown till this is gone. 5, 4, 3, 2 ....

I disagree-
we have freedom of speech in this country
if some idiot wants to use idiotic language....that is on them
it just shows how ignorant that person is.

at what point does it end ?

It is up to people to NOT be pricks and to use common sense
we shouldn't make more rules which take away peoples freedoms

the vast majority may not agree with those idiots-
but they have a right to feel/say what they want
so long as it isn't in a threatening way

This whole idea brings up a lot of interesting questions and debates.

Some slurs are obvious. They need to go away. But what about new slurs being added to the list once the precedent is set? Who decides what crosses the line and what doesn't?

Is "sticks and stones may break my bones..." no longer a valid mindset?
