QB platoon at Northwestern

07:37 AM ET 02.27 | In Evanston, Pat Fitzgerald's crew is back at it after a dispiriting 2013 campaign -- and there are questions. With Kain Colter's eligibility expired (although he certainly remains in the news for other reasons), Trevor Siemian sits atop the depth chart at quarterback for the 'Cats after splitting time with Colter the last two seasons. Protecting the football is priority No. 1 for the Florida native, who threw for over 400 yards with four touchdowns and no interceptions in the season finale at Illinois. Siemian will get pushed by redshirt freshman Matt Alviti, and Fitz has no problems with a platoon situation. Also keep an eye on Zack Oliver, who may take second-team reps ahead of Alviti at first. But Siemian unquestionably will have a chance to expand his leadership.

Not seeing how this equates to platooning. Sounds more like a normal competitive situation.

Man, offseason reporting suxes mightily.

The QB's are going to form a Union so that they all get equal playing time.

Sounds like a plan to me...."Let's redistribute the playing time!!"

Headline Rewrite: "QB Poltroon at Northwestern."

Okay, while I admire the usage, I don't get the meaning.

Equally as nonsensical as "platoon", my dear Watson. ;)

Okay, I thought it was an allusion to Colter - who's in Dutch to be sure - or some other (allegedly) cowardly QB.

Take it with a grain of salt. Most of what I write on here is nonsensical and not to be taken seriously.

When your avatar photo shows the state and an m-j leaf all over it, how seriously can I take you?

I agree that it looks like an m-j leaf, but it's a buckeye leaf, with buckeye nut attached if you look closely.

The Buckeye State's gonna follow suit with Colorado pretty soon. AND Ohio State already owns the corporate logo. But don't take my word for it--- Hippy Weed will set you straight (or not).

Sorry I couldn't tell through the purple haze. (I have relatives from Ohio and I don't see it legalizing mj any time soon. Course, they're loading up with goods in the garage for the apocalypse, too. So there's that.)

FWIW, National Football Post had titled the article as "Spring Preview: Northwestern." Looks like a maladroit rewrite by an unversed mod.

Like you, I picked up on poltroon but didn't comprehend the use/context. Harley's a journeyman wordsmith. Not often does he employ misuse of words or other nonsense in his humor and leave me befuddled.

I think I managed to discombobulate myself as well. #]

Since I've already stepped in it, I'll retreat to the old "Mondegreen" defense. That's my final answer and I'm sticking to it.

I would go with Mondogreen instead.
