Kiki Vandeweghe, Jerry Colangelo and Donnie Walsh have been mentioned as the three most likely candidates to replace Isiah Thomas, the Knicks president. But Vandeweghe appears to have a slight edge, according to several league sources.

I don't know why anyone would even want the job...Everything is so messed up.

February 27, 2008  08:08 AM ET

Other contenders...Bubbles the Chimp, Mother Teresa, Helen Keller...all could do a better job.

February 27, 2008  08:41 AM ET

haven't you always wanted a monkey?

I honestly feel that this team cant get any worst. I also feel anyone who gets the job is going down in history if they turn this team around. Think about it imagine someone takes the job and puts this team back on the map to become a contender? Everyone will be talking about the GM and espn will be having sunday conversations with the guy lol I also feel feel the perfect guy to take the job would be roger clements cause his legacy is about to hit rock bottom and the only thing to save it is to do something nobody can do right now and thats to fix the NY KNICKS ..............

Hard to say this....but I think a college coach can do a better job than Isiah....

February 27, 2008  09:36 AM ET

I wonder what Brian Colangelo from the Raptors can do if he goes to the Knicks

February 27, 2008  09:45 AM ET

Agreed ThePolish. Who's the coach at George Mason again...?

I can't believe this. Question: why hasn't Patrick Ewing, Mark Jackson or Alan Houston been offered positions in the Knicks front office? Kiki was a good role player but these guys were stars. It's the ULTIMATE insult to me, a die-hard Knick fan, that Patrick Ewing is coaching in Orlando. :-( Jim Dolan, wise up & stop throwing OUR $ away or i'll start a blog asking other die-hard Knicks fans to stop attending or watching the games. I guess we have to "hit" you in the pocket for you to wake up & I'll do it. Believe me.

Peter G - I did, but only if I had a million dollars.

Deepnvader - the problem is that Ewing needs to learn how to coach. So he's serving his apprenticeship. What you ask for, I think, is impossible. The best players are - generally - terrible coaches and managers. (Look how bad Michael Jordan was as an executive.) Look at the wonderful Isiah Thomas, who has turned everything into lead since leaving his playing days behind him. The only great player who was a halfway decent coach is Larry Bird. Ewing needs to keep serving as a coaching apprentice and learn.

The Knicks are in such bad shape that the next person for the job needs to be someone with managerial experience. This isn't a job for an on the job trainee. For every Joe Dumars, there's 2 Isiahs.
The Knicks are the richest franchise in the NBA. Your blog will have no effect on Dolan's decision.

I agree with Hllywd. Hiring a "fan favorite" is what got the Knicks into this mess in the first place. From Isaiah to Marbury, the Knicks have been trying to make PR moves instead of basketball moves. Kiki revived the Denver Nuggets from the subpar Mahmoud Abdul-Rauf days and laid the foundation for the high energy, explosive unit that it is today. I bleed blue and orange and I truly believe that Kiki would be a move in the right direction...the first one in years.

Go Knicks Go
Dolan for President 08
Thomas for VEEP 08

Cheney should take Dolan's place
and Bush should take Thomas' place as the new coach

Nice little trade off there

February 27, 2008  11:57 AM ET

Anthony i was hoping someone would get that.

There is nothing anyone can do to fix the team right now, they should ride out Isiah until all these awful contracts are almost gone and then bring in someone who can do the right thing. If you bring in someone now, you have to pay them and Isiah...and to do what? they are f'ed by the cap

February 27, 2008  12:13 PM ET

Kiki should stay way from this job.

February 27, 2008  12:14 PM ET

isn't Phil Jax glad Jeanie convinced him to stay in L.A.

February 27, 2008  12:19 PM ET

Whoever it is, the job should be profiled on "Dirty Jobs". The amount of poo that whoever follows Isiah has to dig through to turn the Knicks back into a contender is immense.

I think the Knicks should see if Greg Anthony has any interest in coaching or GMing. If Colangelo wants the GM job, see if Anthony has interest in coaching. He is perfect for the job.

Since the Knicks are basically stuck for 2 years cap-wise it would be a good time to allow someone to grow into the position. At this point, any progress is better than the team currently assembled.

The problem is that if they keep Isiah any longer he'll just sign MORE players to MORE overpriced contracts! It's his "drug of choice." The guy can't help himself. Better get rid of him ASAP.

If nothing else, you can say that Dolan has the patience of Mother Theresa. He certainly seems willing to give whoever it is plenty of time to "work their magic". Get the new guy in now and do his best while waiting for some cap room to appear.

The Knicks need to get rid of Isaiah! Period.

Sounds like they want to replace the GM position only, not the Head Coach. The Head coach needs replacing too.
