Georgia to feature two backs

Georgia's Knowshon Moreno will not be alone in the backfield next season. Georgia coaches have already started to scheme how they can utilize both Moreno and Caleb King in the backfield at the same time in 2008. The look could be somewhat similar to 2007 when, at times, Thomas Brown and Moreno were in the backfield together.

There goes Knowshon Moreno's chance at a heisman....

February 28, 2008  09:15 AM ET

True that. It's hard to win a Heisman sharing carries. It's better for Georgia and Knowshon in the long run, though.

There goes Moreno's chance to extend his career and not get beat up in a tough SEC. J HOVA, you are right on point.

Jabril, how does this blow his chance to extend his career? I would think that it would lengthen his career provided that he produces the same way he did last year with Brown in the backfield with him. If Moreno produces, they will use King in a change-of-pace way and keep Moreno fresh. Smart move Dawgs!!

And yes...I am a homer!!

Lucky26: I think that's what Jabril meant. He probably worded it wrong but we all think that for his career this is the best thing for him. He may have lost a shot at personal glory, but for the long run reducing his workload is the best thing for Georgia and for Knowshon.

Unfortunately I think their offense will be too balanced to provide anyone (Stafford or Moreno) a chance to win the Heisman. Unlike Florida there are no ball hogs on this team.

Nicely placed jab....^^^

They do have an impressive backfield

Marin, it's nice to see you could make it to your computer this morning with all of that coin weighing you down.

February 28, 2008  03:22 PM ET

Marin County.

Tebow is not a ball hog. He just didn't have anybody worthwhile to hand the ball off to. Something tells me Moreno will look pretty outstanding even while sharing carries with Caleb King. He shared carries this year and looked great.

February 28, 2008  04:10 PM ET

The key is to not share it at the wrong times with him. He lit up some teams after about 15 carries were in the bank. This also led to him being banged up for Ga. Tech and Hawaii. Give him the ball at 4:1 ration until the game is not in question.

February 28, 2008  04:11 PM ET

There are two reasons for this move: To keep Knowshon healthy and to satisfy King so he won't transfer.

February 28, 2008  04:46 PM ET

Lets remember that King is a great back, he was ranked in the top five last year when he was recruited. I think this is a great move for the team, it will be a great 1-2 punch and keep them both healthy.

February 28, 2008  04:56 PM ET

Last season there was a T&R that Richt would use 2 QB's, and we all saw how that panned out. Using two RB's is much more reasonable though.

Good move by a great coach. GO DAWGS!

February 28, 2008  05:55 PM ET

where's that guy who was yapping at me about USC shuffling running backs?

February 28, 2008  06:28 PM ET

I said its GREAT to be a Georgia Bulldog!

February 28, 2008  07:00 PM ET

I'm not a Georgia fan or Georgia hater. But I do love Knowshon. To tinker with him like this I believe is a big big mistake. The best player in college football (Knowson) can now kiss the Heisman good bye.

February 28, 2008  10:42 PM ET

Does anyone honestly think Knowshon cares about the Heisman? Knowshon is going to do whatever is best for the team. Heisman trophy winners are remembered for flopping in the NFL. People remember championship teams and the selfless players that lead them. This is great for Knownshon and great for the Dawgs. Why wouldn't you use all the talent you have?...Richt is one of the smartest coaches out there, and this proves it again.
