Increased security for IU president

Kelvin Sampson's resignation as basketball coach has prompted Indiana University to add extra security at the president's office and other campus locations. There have been no specific threats against president Michael McRobbie or other school officials since Sampson accepted a $750,000 buyout Friday, IU police Capt. Jerry Minger said. After former basketball coach Bob Knight was fired in September 2000, police arrested several protesters and used riot gear for crowd control when thousands of students rushed to the residence of then-president Myles Brand, setting fire to trees and burning effigies of Brand.

the circumstances surrounding the two personnel changes are strikingly different, and the arrogant professorial anti-athlete, anti-Knight-personally attitude of Brand much more apparent and irritating -- I doubt McRobbie has anything to worry about deriving from Sampson's buy-out.

He shouldnt have anything to worry about but his house is in the middle of campus and an open target for a crazy idiot. I walk by his house many times a week, and it is easy to see how someone who doesnt like him could try to hurt him, The additional police are just to be more safe than sorry

If he really wants to protect himself he should find a way to block Sampson from calling him.

First of all, these articles about everybody loving Sampson are overblown. IU fans are crazy about basketball, but they're also smart enough to know when somebody is taking advantage of their program and ultimately driving it into the ground. Nobody's after President McRobbie.

Second, there has not been one person roaming around that Administration building, where his office is, who hasn't been there all year. I saw one reporter in the building on the day of the announcement last week. That's it. No security, no reporters, no crazy fans. This silly article makes it sound like there are armed guards outside his office.

The University of Indiana.....where students enroll to get a quality education. NOT! Where students enroll to see some good basketball or else someone is going to need some extra protection.

He's the president of a university - not a head of state. Hey McRobbie, can you say "paranoid?"
