Justice: Possible Clemens suppliers

Part of the Justice Department's pursuit of Roger Clemens could center on the Houston area, where federal investigators, even before the referral, had begun looking into whether he received performance-enhancing drugs from local suppliers. That effort has led investigators to scrutinize the activities of at least one gym owner in Houston and one or more doctors, according to several lawyers with knowledge of the situation who asked to remain anonymous because they were not authorized to speak publicly.

FINALLY, getting down to what it's all about. The domino affect. Two schools of thought: Choke it at the source or legalize/regulate and tax it's usage.

In clemens case, of course very damaging to him in the perjury cae, if the suppliers finger him....

I whole heartedly agree, Tony. This is what this whole shebang is all about. not to get the user s, the people, the players, who fall prey to vanity, riches and glory and fame but to get the suppliers, those who make the illegally gotten big bucks. If nothing else the government wants its cut but hopefully there is also the moral and right reason involved too, i.e, these drugs kill people and cheat peole out of livelihoods and lastly they taint the game of baseball and all other sporting activites wherever they are found.

Clemens' mistake was he has lied and now must pa y the piper. The bigger question was raised by Mike Lupica in today's Daily News: If he lied about steroids then what else is he lying about?

Rolling Stones guitarist Keith Richards has advised young people to "lay off the dope" in an interview with monthly magazine Uncut.

The 64-year-old, who famously claimed to have snorted his father's ashes - but later denied it, revealed what his message would be to anyone using drugs.

"Give it up, it ain't really worth it. I know the fascination, but it ain't worth it," he said.

He also branded bandmate Sir Mick Jagger a "power freak".

'Vain bloke'

"Mick's a maniac. He can't get up in the morning without knowing immediately who he's going to call," he said.

"Meanwhile, I just go 'Thank God I'm awake' and wait for three or four hours before I do anything.

He is a power freak and there's nothing we can do about it

Keith Richards on Mick Jagger

"He is a power freak and there's nothing we can do about it. I don't want to do anything about it. It doesn't make any difference to what we do," he added.

When asked about Jagger's on stage persona he said: "Excuse me while I laugh. He's a bit vain, let's put it like that."

"We want a vain bloke up there, don't we? Meanwhile, the band can go to work. Vanity will not carry a band. But a band can carry vanity."

The performer, who is currently promoting Shine A Light, a Martin Scorsese documentary about the Stones, also revealed he does not listen to contemporary music and thinks CDs sound "tinny".

and no offense Joe G, i love the Stones, and all that, but **** does this have to do with the issue at hand? Am i missing something here?

February 28, 2008  08:42 AM ET

Roger If you were a man you would have stepped up and said yes I used thosr drugs and I am sorry. This would have helped in alot of ways by doing this. It would have opened the door to stop the use of these drugs by the players and the kids who think you are gods.

thunderdragon: in the words of Gary Cooper: Yep.

ahhh....the paper trail to the drug distribution channels....this is the ace up the sleeve of the JD....

This ould also be Roger's way to cut a deal...give up names....like every other illegal drug suspect does....it could also lead to more damaging discovery......

6 months at a minimum security Fed country club......

4192: That's right my friend, it cuts accross all of society, percentage wise, it may be higher in pro sports, pressure to perform, big bucks, etc. With the PED's stimulants, useage. For a while, in the beginning, I gave him the benefit of the doubt, it was due him at that time. But now it's so sad.
I thought of the Dylan song: standing here right next to me in this lonely crowd, there's a man who says he's not to blame, all day long I hear him cry so loud, calling out that he's been framed....Somehow psychologically he feels like the victim. And that he is not lying and that McNamee is the villian. For this reason I feel for the users, they are mixed up. But the profiteers are the villians. Nonetheless, if it is true, and he lied, he must pay the price.

Will the US governments target the movie / music industry next? How many entertainers have given performances while on drugs to get through a show. Is this fair competition for our fan dollar? A professional entertainer / baseball player may go to jail to for telling lies to congress......does anyone remember Bill's perjury in the Whitewater hearings? "I did not have sex with that woman."

February 28, 2008  10:00 AM ET

Tony excellent choice of songs. that fits the situation so well. :)

Let this be a lesson to us all. If you've done something wrong, or illegal, never poke the GOV in the eye with a stick.

Looks like Mr. Clemens left his lunch out......

Would any of you mess with Jeff Novitzky? The man is an unashamed dumpster diver. I wouldn't. Any man that would go through another mans trash is a man not to be trifled with.

February 28, 2008  10:50 AM ET

Novitzky has a lot of pit bull in him. he bites and doesn't let go. He will take you down if he smells blood and he smells Clemens' blood.. fack his lunch! Just ask his other "targets" about his tenaciousness.
