The Jets figure to be suitors for two of the biggest names on the market, Steelers left guard Alan Faneca and Patriots cornerback Asante Samuel, but it probably will take the richest contract in Jets history to land either one.

The Jets should have just gave LG Kendall the money he earned and they wouldnt have to pay out so much now to Faneca if he even wants to play there.

Exactly. The Kendall situation I blame more than anything else for last seasons problems the Jets had. And now not only did they significantly downgrade their offensive line but are going to have to spend more than they would have on Kendall. Brilliant FO maneuver.

I live to see the Jets guarantee 30 mil to Asante Samuel.

February 28, 2008  08:06 AM ET

Faneca will not be a bargain, neither will "burn me to ash" Asante.

As long as the checks don't bounce.

The Jets should be thinking about a few other things than a high priced corner. Asante is worth some money, but to a team with no other hope on their defensive line, he's gonna end up with a mediocre season. Just like any other Jets cb

Oh boy...now where are all the Jets supporters who keep flappin their gums about how PURE and perfect the Jets are and that they'd never take a former Patriot or let the Patriots take someone from their team in a trade deal? What a crock!

February 28, 2008  08:45 AM ET

There is no way in hell the Jets will ever give anyone a $100M contract....NEVER!!!

February 28, 2008  08:50 AM ET

will they take Hobbs too?.................please??

Why should the guy that dropped the interception to ice 19-0 receive a monster contract?

February 28, 2008  09:27 AM ET

Hopefully Faneca joins Kendall on the Redskins. The Pats can keep Samuel, he's gonna be pricey.

Jets fan here. As far as Asante coming to NY, I'll believe it when I see it. Seriously, you all know better than to take the media at their word. Right?

February 28, 2008  10:01 AM ET

Both big needs. They need to do what they have to do to make it happen.

J-E-T-S!

February 28, 2008  10:15 AM ET

Alan Faneca and Asante Samuel would do nothing to a team in total dissaray from top to bottom. From the front office to the coach to the players. This team is at least 2 more years away from even contending in that division.Load it up with all the free agents you can get,it still won't help, ask Danny Snyder.
