Berrian rejects Bears offer

Here's the bottom line for the Bears' attempt to re-sign wide receiver Bernard Berrian: Their most recent offer -- $8 million in bonus money in a five-year, $25 million package -- wasn't enough to get a deal done. It's unknown how much room the Bears have to improve that offer for Berrian, who is expected to be courted by the Vikings. It's also unclear whether Berrian and agent Drew Rosenhaus will be able to get another team -- the Browns, Jets, Raiders and 49ers also are thought to be interested -- to meet his asking price, which probably would require a signing bonus of more than $12 million.

Is he that good, word, I mean who is throwing the ball too him, but I don't blame him about trying to get as much bonus money as possible. He will get paid in March as opposed in August timeframe. To be devils advocate, I do remember a guy by the name of Peerless "the fearless" Price, whom couldn't catch a cold on a windy day in December after he got paid. I am not sure, but prop's to any man running a 2 route or slant route across the middle. Holla'

Dont be surprised if he signs with the Patriots. Their scout report lists him as a possible interest

February 28, 2008  08:24 AM ET

Cowboys maybe? But probably not due to the amount he will want.......

49ers and Raiders are a possibility considering he in from Cali and played at Fresno State.

February 28, 2008  08:51 AM ET

Ok Let's run down the options.
Chicago- You have Grossman/Orton no threat to get him the ball.
49ers- Oh man Alex Smith, lets get scarred. He will not have career years there.
Raiders- Do we even have to say how pathetic they are?
At this point, if these above teams have interest, you have a decent shot of putting up stats in Cleveland with Anderson. Unless he is a one hit wonder.

Might as well just buy a house in the Twin Cities asap. Vikings are willing to pay. And for all the TJack bashers, you can't grade him until he has something to throw to. Thank god Williamson is gone.

darren,
I understand what you are saying, but Berrian was a 4th round pick. So he never got the big dollars.......So maybe to him getting the Biggest contract possible is like going to the super bowl......

February 28, 2008  09:15 AM ET

Hey come to Washington everyone knows "Danny Boy Snyder " will scoop him up and win the SB of free agency

February 28, 2008  09:25 AM ET

Bear fan here. Wish we could have him back. Now our current WR corp consists of Mark Bradley, Devin Hester and Rashied Davis. Uh... yeah.

I really thought resigning Grossman would help with the signing of Berrian cuz they have a great connection on the field, but if Berrian wants that kinda money he can take a hike.

I'd rather the Bears focus and try to spend the money on guys like Faneca, Bryant Johnson (to replace Berrian) or Gibril Wilson (safety from NYG)

Glad you're getting paid Berrian, but you can choke on it. Hope you go to the Vikings so we can break your @$$

February 28, 2008  09:25 AM ET

5 years $25 million dollars. Nah, I'm gonna hold out so I can get paid ?? ?? ??

February 28, 2008  09:34 AM ET

That is a pretty good offer, what is the problem not enough of it guaranteed?

February 28, 2008  10:07 AM ET

$25 mil over 5 years? im disgusted they would even offer that much money for this guy... yea he is fast but what does that matter when u cant catch the ball... time to throw big money at Faneca

February 28, 2008  10:14 AM ET

Guaranteed money is always better. Injuries are a reality in the NFL.

February 28, 2008  10:34 AM ET

When a team can dump you at a whim, upfront money is all you can really collect. Ask M. Vick, he got paid, because the Falcons did not cross their ts and dot their is.

But on the other hand St. Louis is trying to screw Bruce (WR) again this year.

his numbers should be off the chart if we had a consist quarterback. He was a lock to hit 80 catches 7-8 tds and over 1,100 yards until the last few games when "our latest savior" stupid ass Kyle Orton showed up to play. Grossman and Berrian are perfect together, if only Rex got his stuff together they could've been a six tandem. In 2006 they hooked up for 6 50+ yard plays...all of them for touchdowns. The guy deserves the money because his stats reflect his quarterback more than anything, but I think he is being picky about a difference between 32 million dollars and 35 million dollars...there's rosenhaus for you.

anyone who says he can't catch the ball reads too many idiotic critics and doesn't watch enough Bears games. Yes he dropped the ball in 2007, but that was the first time ever he showed evidence of doing that, I'm going to give him the benefit of the doubt. Plus he's made so many great plays in the past, including that diving catch against the Lions at home, the behind the back dive for a TD against the Saints in the NFC Champ game, and that sick catch in the endzone against the Broncos with time expiring.

February 28, 2008  11:25 AM ET

Hey Bears Fans, don't worry about it.. Moose is gone, Berrian won't sign, but at least you've locked up Orton and Grossman for next year. This was a bad offense before these guys left. Would you want to sign to play with these quarterbacks if you were Berrian???

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA.....

Philly's back this year boys, and I can't wait to turn the all NFC teams into believers..

February 28, 2008  11:43 AM ET

It's been a long time TheJazz...............But no I am sorry, The Cowboys are there to stay!

February 28, 2008  11:45 AM ET

He wants to get paid.

February 28, 2008  11:46 AM ET

Bears seem to be a team that survives without WR's. When you think about a Bears wide out of the past, track man Willie Gault is the only one who comes to mind. Goes hand and hand with the re-signing of Rex and Orton.

February 28, 2008  11:53 AM ET

Am i the only one that thinkgs Hester and Bradley arent that bad of a combo???...you saw what Hester was able to do last year at his very very first year at the position....i mean come on how many guys can you take drafting him at a Corner, put him as THE MOST dynamic punt/kick returner in NFL history....AND he was converted to wide receiver all in 2 years....i think we're fine we can draft someone in the 3rd round or something who the hell cares elsewise...
