Big Papi wants to re-sign with Sox

One of David Ortiz' primary motivations is to get that last big contract from the Red Sox. He makes this clear: not just a deal from any team in baseball, but the Red Sox. Ortiz' current deal, which he signed in April 2006, runs through 2010 with a team option for 2011. In each of the seasons, he's slated to make $12.5 million per year.

The contract runs through 2010 and its being discussed why ? I know very little about the whole contract thing but wouldnt 2009 be the time to discuss it ?

A lot can happen in the next three years... i don't know if i am Red Sox management if I start talking right now... maybe down the road apiece but now? nah. i think Papi is angling here for a new deal and using the old sugar to try and trap a fly in red stockings, if you catch my drift.

Too early, Papi, we really appreciate how you feel about the club, but a business decision this far out is too much risk....don't get me wrong, we love ya, but it's too far out. Get through this year, and we'll talk...

But please don't get any Nipple Rings....you've got the facial hair and the chains and earrings...no NP, Please!

Only Ortiz wants to re do the contract, not the team..They are dumb if they go that way...Let him prove he will still be worth big money at 35 when his present contract runs out...

24-0 over Boston College...
Yanks are next...
but if metal detectors are used at the park then that may reduce the NY bullpen significantly..

Body jewelry or broken syringes?

At age 32, Ortiz has plenty of good years ahead of him in the DH role. It is unlikely that the Red Sox would be willing to part with him. If he comes back in 2008 with a season anywhere in the vicinity of .300 - 40 - 120,... then he can write his own contract. The good news is that Papi is neither greedy, nor an egomaniac. A four-year deal beneficial to both sides shouldn't be a problem.

Papi wants to stay here and anyone that doesn't think we need him is an idiot

how is our Colon doing today?

Worry about your contract in 2009 or before the 2010. If you keep hitting the way you are, a new contract is a no-brainer

Every team in proffessional sports should be lucky enough to have a Big Papi.
Theo knows this as much as all of us, and he'll do the right thing at the right time in the right way. This, i'm certain of.
