Jeff Garcia signed with the Eagles last year knowing full well Donovan McNabb would be the starting quarterback in Philadelphia. What Garcia learned later is that sitting on the bench would drive him to utter misery.

He's going to be the starter in Tampa this year, so bench duty won't apply.

Not so fast...Gruden should allow for open competition. Simms will be the better of the two QB's.

May 22, 2007  12:20 PM ET

Garcia should win the job

May 22, 2007  12:24 PM ET

I think Garcia will be the starter but I don't think either will lead to a deep playoff run or a super bowl and pending the Vick situation mabye not even a playoff birth because of the deep NFC SOUTH!

May 22, 2007  12:26 PM ET

He won't play second fiddle to someone like Simms for very long, if at all.

May 22, 2007  12:32 PM ET

Garcia is a solid warrior and really knows how to read a defense. If he plays behind a solid offensive line, he will do exceedingly well in Tampa. I hated to see him go from Phili...the guy has good touch on the ball. Not a strong arm persay, but he knows how to get his receivers the ball.

Garcia has been a Pro Bowl QB before, Simms has not. While Simms is younger, Garcia is still more talented at this point in their careers. Garcia will be the starter while the Bucs continue to evaluate Simms as the future.

Garcia was playing in the same system, he was playing in the 49ers so he was not that far off, in the learning progress, as far as the offense, he is a great QB I always liked him, however he is not gonna match the same sucess he had last year, because during the time he was playing for the Eagles, they had nothing to lose so they were alot riskier, and luckier same as the Vikings, w Brad Johnson, but look what happend the year after. However Garcia is in a different team, w somewhat better recievers, but a little bit worse line. So its gonna be a very fun experience to c unravel in the Tampa Bay area, their only real problem is their coach

May 22, 2007  12:42 PM ET

I think Garcia should start for the Minnesota Vikings. Just wishful thinking.

May 22, 2007  12:55 PM ET

If Garcia doesn't want to sit on the bench, then I guess he knows what he has to do. Win the job.

May 22, 2007  12:56 PM ET

Garcia is a good QB. But in the right system. Look at his history in Detroit and Cleveland. Those were not very good years. Tampa is similar to what he ran in SF so he should do better there. His age is really the big concern here. The division he is in is getting better and more physical. I doubt either QB can lead them out of this division healthy and far.

May 22, 2007  01:23 PM ET

He's got a lot of heart, I hope he gets the job!

May 22, 2007  01:33 PM ET

I freaking hate Jeff Garcia.....You don't like the bench??? I am suprised that he hasn't got used to it by now.

May 22, 2007  01:40 PM ET

Simms is a bust.... and should be traded as soon as some team's starting QB goes down for the season...

May 22, 2007  01:49 PM ET

SIMMS SUCKS MAN, JEFF GARCIA IS THE MOST EXPERIENCE OF THE BUNCH!!

May 22, 2007  02:14 PM ET

Simms had no O-line last year. No one could star under those circumstances.

May 22, 2007  02:23 PM ET

first of all, ocpete, go viks! chargers are better though. second of all Jon Gruden should make an open copetion. Simms should start at the begining but at the end of the season it will be Gracia.

May 22, 2007  02:33 PM ET

how is simms a bust, when he was injured most of last year, i would admit garcia is more better than what the vikings have lol

May 22, 2007  02:53 PM ET

Well, Joe Theisman sure doesn't think Simms is a bust.

i think Garcia should start for Vikings or Lions. He's good at reading the defense and those teams need a leader.
