The Saints called and expressed interest in trading for tight end Jeremy Shockey. The Giants are not shopping Shockey and they declined to discuss any trade. Shockey is coming off surgery on his leg and ankle and could not at the moment pass a physical.

He is not going anywhere this year. Of course they need him, he is very good and cap friendly...So tell me kuster69, who do they put there if he was gone and Boss went down with an injury?? They use a two tight end offense anyways a lot....He and Boss together are way better than Boss and ? .

Team Cancer man. That should be his new name. There is hope though, now Eli is calling the shots, so either Shockey gets in line or the whole team jumps on him....

Thanks for talking sense 50yearfan! Everyone enjoys riding him because he is outspoken, (and wears that cap lol). Keep Barvaro....hmmm I mean Shockey!

I wholeheartedly agree with 50yearfan. I believe Shockey is one of the best blocking Tight Ends in the NFL. He also brings an intangible which is getting into Eli Manning's head to have some confidence. The Giants would be the most foolish team in existence to part with Shockey at this point in the game.

March 1, 2008  08:52 AM ET

Is Shockey a distraction off the field, Yes. But he is a good enough player that the Giants need to keep him, even if Eli Manning likes throwing to Kevin Boss more. He is agreat blocker, a good receiver, and one of the best TEs in the league when he is healthy.

saints do like burly TE's that can be a presence over the middle. none of them last for the saints though. will be the end of shockey if he ends up in the dome. 1-2 good years, then a slow burn down the injury list quicker than you can say, "Cam Cleeland."

March 1, 2008  09:32 AM ET

Sean Payton knows Shockey very well from their days together when he was the OC with the Giants...That should be a clue as to just how good the guy really is...Even hurt he was third on the team with receptions.....Know a good thing when you got it...The TE situation in the NFL is so bad the Eagles franchised a mediocre player..Reid is no fool, he knows what is out there at that spot..not much..

Man, you just tarnished the image of one of the greatest TE's to ever play the game. Bavaro, like Jay Novacek, were pure team players that helped lead their respective teams to championships. Jerermy Shockey is a spoiled punk who, like Moss, when things aren't coming his way, he throws a tantrum. Unfortunately for the Giants, he's one of the best TEs in the game and they need him.

March 1, 2008  10:14 AM ET

Tarnished Bavaro - oops. He reminds me alot of Dave, he dosnt go down, dragging players down the field. Bavaro gave a beat down.

March 1, 2008  10:26 AM ET

If the Saints offer a 2nd round pick, take it and sign Kyle Brady as your blocking TE and draft another young one on the second day in April.

go boss

March 1, 2008  10:41 AM ET

as long as you grt something for him, do it up!!!!!Colston would look good in a Giants uni

March 1, 2008  10:44 AM ET

No way that's happening. There would be a huge backlash against Shockey leaving.

March 1, 2008  11:03 AM ET

Boss and Shockey would be a nightmare to match up against

No they wouldn't. Shockey doesn't play well unless he's the center of attention. Imagine him this year when Eli starting throwing to Boss instead of him. People kept talking about TO breaking up the Dallas organization. Never happened. Now Shockey is quite capable of doing the same thing, He's good but he's not Witten good. Never will be.

Yeah right, Colston would hate to have a loud mouth like Shocky, Brees wouldn't put up with his crap in the huddle, this would be a huge mistake if it went through.
