Fehr: Why is Bonds jobless?
Barry Bonds' quest for employment has a backer in baseball union chief Donald Fehr. Speaking here yesterday as part of his annual tour of spring-training camps, Fehr said, "It's a shame" that clubs continue to back away from baseball's all-time home run leader. Under indictment for perjury and under a cloud of suspicion about steroid use, Bonds understandably has drawn no takers as a 43-year-old free agent this spring. "I don't know why it is," Fehr said of Bonds' plight. "Obviously, we've noticed [the lack of inter est]. I think it's a shame, but that's the way it is."

Fehr: "I fought tirelessly for Barry's right to take steroids, and I'll fight for his right to take another owner's money, too!"

The jerk Triumvirate: Fehr, Bonds, Boras. Not necessarily in that order.

He's 43 years old, his knees are shot, and he's made a career of being a complete jerk to everyone around him. He's also under indictment for perjury, and the just released grand jury transcripts pretty much seal the deal. He also comes complete with traveling media circus. Yet, Fehr still wonders why B*nds is unemployed. I'm not sure who is dumber, Fehr or B*nds.

As much as I dislike Bonds if I'm a American League owner I would sign him in a minute. He may bring some baggage but if I feel that I'm 1 or 2 players
away I would go after him.

an excellent point, however no Owner is in that position. Take Tampa. They are not one piece away, and they bring a major disruption into the clubhouse for their younger players.
Take the Yankees..they could handle the distraction, but they are already set at DH, so too the Tigers.
I can't think of one team that would want to handle the baggage that is Barry Bonds, no matter how talented.

If it were just steroids, he 'd still be playing. All about the attitude. His arrogance is keeping him from being signed. Which is a shame. I would STILL pay to watch him hit. As a DH he could put up monster numbers. Sadly, Barry can't be contrite like Jason Giambi. He's not a likable like McGwire.

I hope someone signs him. I want him on my fantasy team. Everyone in my league treats him like cancer, so I can pick him up in the later rounds and get good production.

Fehr has got to have the biggest set of brass ones of anyone this side of Hillary or Sanjaya.
There's an SI.com writer (Verducci or Donavan, I think) that said something similar to what jt44 said. A team that's 1 or 2 players away is close enough to not want the distraction or the attitude that Bonds brings and that to a team like Tampa, would it really be worth it if he's not going to put you over the top.
In fact, tampa just got rid of some of it's poisonous atmosphere, why bring in Bonds to mess with those young kids' heads?

I guess all I'm saying is that he could help and can still hit.
As for you imanogre, It's obvious you know nothing about baseball!!!

hey Fehr -- read the papers -- why would a team want Bonds with all the baggage he brings with him? -- maybe you could hire him as the players' association advisor on drug use and how to get away with it, or, how to be the only guy allowed to wear body armor at the plate, or, how to win friends and influence people -- will Fehr urge someone to hire Clemens for opening day? -- why doesn't Fehr stand up for McGwire and Maris getting into the Hall of Fame -- Fehr is a putz!
