Pat Knight makes changes at Tech

Pat Knight, 37, has embraced -- but not been cowed by -- the legacy left by his legendary father, Bob, whose sudden resignation on Feb. 2 thrust the younger Knight into his first major head coaching job. Seven games in, Pat Knight has made changes in everything from the pregame introductions to X's and O's, to recruiting to dealings with the media, to, yes, even office furniture. "It's my team now" Knight said. "But the basis of everything I do, I learned from him. He said, 'I'm staying out of your way. This (team) is yours now, but I'm here if you need me.' I'm not dumb. I've got a Hall of Fame coach as a dad, so I'll always ask him things." The Raiders also are playing a more up-tempo offense under the younger Knight. And luring kids to the United Spirit Arena -- those who will play the games and those who watch from the stands -- is high on Knight's list of priorities. Recruiting players and fans is an area where he believes he has an edge on his 67-year-old father.

I like it. It's definitely an improvement. He's trying to bring the new-age stuff to appeal to the fans and plays AND win games.
