After a meeting with manager Lou Piniella, Jason Marquis said he did not feel the need to clarify his controversial remarks from Saturday, and had no regrets over saying he'd rather go elsewhere if he's not in the Cubs' rotation. "It was just a misunderstanding of words, that's what it came down to," Marquis said, adding that nothing he said was "negative." Marquis said he didn't read any of the published reports on his comments or Piniella's angry reaction, in which he said the Cubs can "let him go" if Marquis felt that way. Piniella apologized on Sunday for his critical remarks. Asked if his comments were misconstrued, Marquis replied: "That's your job to figure out, not mine."

Man you think he never has used controversial remarks before? Get real. He stands on what he says. He was told to make an apology and he had his fingers crossed when he did it also.

What a wuss, you were right, Lou. Tell Marquis to go look at the Triple A camp and then send him down if he starts mouthing off again.

March 3, 2008  08:14 AM ET

Never apologize Lou, it's a sign of weakness.

March 3, 2008  09:14 AM ET

Lou's just buying some good will. Marquis will still end up on the bus.

I agree, TFM. All whiners should go under the bus.

Lou is a brawler.

Marquis is nothing but a whiny loser. He cried and whined in St Louis over being taken out of post season rotations, when his Aug/Sept ERA was about 8.50. He never took responsibility for how awful he pitched, but he was always the first one to gripe about how he was used. Totally gutless....just wants things handed to him. I've had years and years as a Cardinal fan & I was never more happy to see someone leave STL than Marquis......

I appreciate an old school guy like pinella. he may be a hothead and at times crass, but at least you know where he stands.

Lou's no brawler ..

Sounds like a spoiled pitcher who wants to e given a job, not earn it....He is taking on more than he can handle if he starts going at it with Lou...

March 3, 2008  11:29 AM ET

Tough talk from a guy who's name is soooooo FRENCH LIKE

March 3, 2008  11:43 AM ET

Ever seen Lou's old lady? I'd have my hands up her skirt quicker than you can say can o'corn

March 3, 2008  11:54 AM ET

I don't think I've ever heard "hand up her skirt" and "can of corn" in the same sentence.

March 3, 2008  11:56 AM ET

Get used to it...I'm back BABY!!!!!!!

March 3, 2008  12:00 PM ET

whatever ever happened to Harold anyway? can anyone enlighten me? Thanks.

March 3, 2008  12:02 PM ET

Looks like he's working for Fannation

March 3, 2008  12:04 PM ET

That is true....Mr. Truth. I going to be a baseball analyst for Fannation this season. I needed some way to keep in the game while my suit against ESPN awaits trial...and my satelite radio program isn't exactly paying all of my paternity suits.....

Remember..I help put the **** is analyst!

March 3, 2008  12:23 PM ET

Ahh Mr Harold...nice to see you back again. I for one have had enough of the political nonsense of women being equal. In my day, you sir would be honored. Now, if you'll excuse me, its time to find my secretary and get in there up to the elbow.

March 3, 2008  02:43 PM ET

There's a reason he wants to be given a slot in the rotation and not have to earn it. He knows he can't earn it on his own. The guys sucks and he won't be pitching for the Cubs this year. Lou doesn't take this kind of BS from a journeyman pitcher.

I still don't understand why Piniella apologized. It was MARQUIS who was in the wrong. It was MARQUIS who assumed too much. and it was MARQUIS who drew first blood. So why the **** did Piniella apologize? I don't care if Marquis turns things around and has a great season. I want the mother ****er gone, and as soon as humanly possible.
