Miami protects recruiting turf

Miami put together one of the nation's top football recruiting classes last month by building a virtual protective wall around the high school stars it coveted most in Miami-Dade, Broward and Palm Beach counties. After inking 18 local front-line players last month, UM officially started collecting its next group of local stars Sunday when it received an oral commitment from Hialeah American 6-3, 230-pound defensive end Olivier Vernon. A second-team All-Dade selection last season as a junior, Vernon said he made an unofficial visit to UM last Thursday with his parents and high school coaches and decided this weekend to call new receivers coach Aubrey Hill and give him the good news.

Just kidding, lol.

That's what Miami needs to do. They need to go back to dominating South Florida recruiting.

I know I have seen Randy Shannon smiling before; can SI get one of those pictures? This is actually good news for the 'Canes.

Time will tell how good this class will be in a year or two. The talent in Fl. is mind blowing-not to mention the college teams-look what USF did and the time it took them, unbelievable. The Canes will be back.

This is what Butch Davis, Jimmy Johnson, and Erickson did so well, and what Larry Coker did so badly. Sealing up those top cats from South Florida gives you the leg up in the talent.

Take that USF and Rutgers! Get your players from your own areas.

Yep, you hit it on the head, Randy is reclaiming and (re)dominating South Florida recruiting. And for the rest of the nation that means..... LOOK OUT!!!

'Canes are on their way back, BIGTIME!!
