Could former Michigan State goaltender Ryan Miller be the Red Wings' goalie of the future? That's the rumor that has been swirling around Buffalo since the Sabres have watched their best players leave through free agency or trades since winning the Presidents' Trophy in 2006-07. Miller, who grew up in East Lansing, will become an unrestricted free agent in July 2009.

Not a chance. Hell will freeze over before the Sabres lose Miller. The team traded Campbell because they knew they would need money for Miller. Miller will make top dollar and is going no where.

How can you call another team's goaltender the Wings' goalie of the future? He BELONGS to the Sabres! Ridiculous. Too many conspiracy journalists out there, not enough stories, so they make them up, and somehow still get paid. Unreal. As a Wings fan, I would not complain about having this guy as my tender, but c'mon, this "rumour" is a joke.

This sounds like tampering to me.

Red Wings goalie of the future is Jimmy Howard

March 3, 2008  10:02 AM ET

LOL, they start it with "Could", and that gives them a free pass to say anything they want.

March 3, 2008  11:20 AM ET

Whats this all about? Useless rumors...

March 3, 2008  11:33 AM ET

They mentioned this on the radio last night during the game. Miller has stated in the past that he wouln'd mind playing for the Red Wings since he's from Michigan. He's also talked about staying in Buffalo and growing with that organization. It's possible he's just seeing if they make him an offer when when he becomes a free agent. The Wings have some good prospects like Jimmy Howard and Stefan Liv, so it's doubtfull they'd dish out that type of money of a positional they fell is already filled.

Slow news day in Detroit?

March 3, 2008  01:06 PM ET

Wait... I live in Buffalo and have not heard that rumor anywhere. Besides didn't they say that about Manny Legace?

March 3, 2008  01:26 PM ET

Huet has 4 playoff games to his credit, Miller has made 2 runs deep into the playoffs, experience - and a younger age - make Miller better than Huet...

March 3, 2008  01:31 PM ET

Here,s something
Sign the guy to your team first, then start making predictions.Another story of historic proportions,monumental,epic----

March 3, 2008  01:49 PM ET

The Red Wings will not get Ryan Miller for a few reasons. Number 1: The Sabres Will not give him up. And number 2: The wings wont be able to give a goaltender back.

March 3, 2008  02:03 PM ET

HEY! Boston you finally posted a picture! LOL I don't see Miller moving. Anything is possible though but to say he is the goalie of the Wing's future is rubbish! (damn Brits making me talk like them! LOL).

March 3, 2008  02:35 PM ET

its not like the sabres have a reputation of keeping their guys, anythings possible when it involves the sabres...

March 3, 2008  02:49 PM ET

What's all this Goalie of the Future crud? Hasek is like 70 and he is still a great goalie. He is obviously immortal. However, I am a Sabres fan and if they lose Miller I will call for the blood of Darcy Regier (the Sabres GM). He said he plans on talking with Miller about a new contract this summer. It better happen!

Red wings goalie of the Future???? POPS!!!!!!!

March 3, 2008  04:25 PM ET

i agree with bigdutchman, jimmy howard is the wings goalie of the future but and this is a big BUT, i think it depends on how competitive the wings are in a couple years , if they are still challenging and odds on favorites to win the cup in a couple of years then this could change there whole approach to eventually hand the reigns over to howard, which is the game plan now, they could make a pitch for him(miller} as well as anybody could but i think that will be predicated on how close they are to winning the cup! and just in case everyone missed it the wings beat the sabres 4-2 last nite and if it weren't for miller it would have been 8-2, this kids the real deal whoever gets him!

March 3, 2008  04:34 PM ET

oh u know hes gonna be a red wing !!! hes from there and don't forget the wings are the yankees of hockey !!! DEAL WITH IT

March 3, 2008  05:15 PM ET

nah that won't happen it never does.

This story is sooo stupid! This might be an interesting if he was a free agent THIS YEAR, but he's not.
