Blackhawks winger Martin Havlat believes he's headed for season-ending shoulder surgery. "Looks like I'm going into surgery for sure," Havlat said after the Hawks' 4-1 victory over the Canucks on Sunday. "The shoulder doesn't feel that well." Havlat dislocated his left shoulder for the second time this season during Wednesday night's game against the Coyotes. He previously missed 22 games after suffering the same injury in the season opener. Havlat said he'll decide officially later this week after meeting with doctors. "If I'm going to need surgery, it's going to be over for sure," Havlat said.

no reason to play hurt...they aren't in the playoff picture...but I don't think that would be something they would think about anyway, this guy doesn't do that. Is this guy actually made of glass (or, with HIS contract, crystal) or what?

Think he blew out his shoulder, wiping his backside.

Yeah, get the surgery done and wait for next year. Skilled player who is more fragile than Forsberg! What a shame!

Six points out with a month to play is not so implausible when you consider whom the Hawks are chasing. They have 7 of the next 11 at home and have been playing with so many injuires ALREADY that a half-strength Havlat is not going to be missed. Khabibulin is a bigger loss. The last week of the season is home-and-home with Detroit, who may have nothing to play for, and a big home match with the Preds. I think it will come down to the wire. Havlat is one of the few Hawks this year whose effort has been questioned, but he hasn't been at full strength since the first week of the season, so probably deserves the benefit of the doubt.

he hasn't been at full strength since BIRTH, WT - this guy came out injured

This guy is soooooooooo injury prone!!! The only way he'll ever play a full season is if he plays in bubble wrap!

The next Bubble boy HAVLAT!!!!

unless the NHL agrees on issuing players the old medieval full battle-plate dress armours (and im talking about the ones made out of steel), it won'tmatter ho many repairs this guy makes, he'll be injured again.

March 3, 2008  05:20 PM ET

I think he should have surgery there's nothing worse than a talented player who ends their career because they got injured because of the decision not to wait until next year.

did ever play 82 in a row?

not in the playoff picture?? are you kidding me?? if it wasnt for toews getting hurt twice this year...majorly....(sprained acl and mcl and almost tore his top lip off recently) he's only 19...he has time to grow and he's the STAR on this team...havlat was really tradable but nothing happened...
