Penguins' general manager Ray Shero expects progress on deals for Mark Recchi and Gary Roberts "soon," and probably will explore a contract extension with coach Michel Therrien.

If the Penguins don't resign those two they will loose some serious scoring help for Crosby and the only veterans on there roster lets hope they sign

they need reechi a lot almost as much as crosby

Just a little more defense and they will be hard to play against for some years to come. Keep the older guys too, look how much the red wings have won the last decade with older players............

The penguins need to sign Roberts and Recchi or else they lose their only veterans and that's no good. The penguins only have young players so they should keep Recchi and Roberts. If they didn't they would be crazy to not. Also the penguins wouls have no scoring. Yeah they have Crosby and Malkin but Crosby sets up more goals than he scores. And Malkin is on a different line and you couldn't have that much talent on one line. The penguins have to sign their head coach too. If they didn't they wouldn't find a good head coach. The penguins would have no luck with a new head coach. So the penguins shouuld sign all three guys.

They need their leadership until the kids grow

Recci will be relegated to the 3rd or 4th line and I'm not sure he will take a contract that will pay him appropriately. Roberts still has game and deserves to be resigned, but he will be 42 when the season starts. I would like to see the Pens take the money they would spend on those guys and go after someone like Daniel Briere in FA. In the end, someone is going to get paid.

Recchie and Roberts are holding the team back from the next step. The Penguins must not spend money on these two 42(!) year oldstake the money and get a couple of 30-35 yr old 'veterans' in the offseason. There are some interesting options on the free-agent market right now. Also, with all the young talent on board, the penguins can afford to trade draft picks for veterans right now.
