Two days after his team was called for a season-high 29 fouls during a loss against Arizona State, USC Coach Tim Floyd on Monday said he had voiced his displeasure with the game officiating to Pacific 10 Conference officials. Four Trojans players fouled out and USC was called for more than twice as many fouls as the Sun Devils, who were assessed 14 fouls during their 80-66 victory at Tempe. Arizona State shot 39 free throws to USC's 11. The Sun Devils shot 36 free throws during a second half in which they overcame a three-point deficit to build leads as large as 22 points. Arizona State scored 13 consecutive points from the foul line during one stretch.

This is one of the main reasons I hate usc. They feel that they are above the rules of the game.

Did you see the game? If filing a complaint meant a team thought they were above therules of the game; why would the process be in place? I think you hate USC for other reasons. but it'll be okay, don't worry.

I actually saw the game and this is unfounded complaint. Anyone who isnt a fan of either school can see that. I'm sure Mayo was crying in the locker room and coach has no choice. I'm sure the NCAA will actually give USC the win and give Arizona state the death penalty for having the audacity to beat USC. How dare them!!!

March 4, 2008  10:52 AM ET

I not a USC guy, but did they do something to you guys? You're acting like *itches on their cycle.

CRY CRY CRY

March 4, 2008  11:31 AM ET

Floyd sold his soul to get Mayo and all it's done is drag down and embarrass USC.

March 4, 2008  12:21 PM ET

All the haters out there will say something negative. However, those of us who KNOW basketball realize what Floyd's doing. In a brilliant move, he's standing up for his players heading into the final two games of conference play. By doing this, he accomplishes two things: One, his players are reminded that he genuinely cares about them and undoubtedly, will play harder for him in the last two games leading to the conference tourney. Two, he also gets his team in the "us against the world" frame of mind. That mentality is important for SC as they will most probably be playing somewhere far with little or no fan support. FIGHT ON!!!

i think all these guys got a rejection in their admission to SC.....ne ways....
39 free throws to 11.....does sound kind of lopsided....

March 4, 2008  12:46 PM ET

Talk about crying... What I LOVE is all the SC Haters... Because it means one thing!

Well you get the jist of it... Good for Tim Floyd... Instead of "crying" to the media, he did what a great coach would do by following the rules and sticking up for his players.

Fight On Trojans!

March 4, 2008  01:04 PM ET

Perhaps they were assessed more fouls because they committed more fouls? That's the way I saw it, but of course I am slightly biased between these two teams.

March 4, 2008  01:14 PM ET

A "great coach" would suck it up and tell his team to move on and quit crying about the past.

Mayo scored half of SC's points in this game. Its not his fault that they lost.

And SC has every right to complain if they feel the game was called unevenly. Whatever happens, I'm sure it will be the right call.

March 4, 2008  02:32 PM ET

#1TrojanFan, If you think Tim Floyd is a "great coach" you clearly were not paying attention to what us Bulls fans suffered through during his painful years in Chicago. Maybe he will be "great" someday but to say the least, the jury is still out...

March 4, 2008  03:07 PM ET

36 free throws in one half seems very lopsided. Every team complains when it happens to them, but nothing happens. Check out the refs from WSU-Stanford, those guys were a joke. Officiating in general is a terribly subjective thing that everyone hates at one time or another.

Floyd is a good coach, he did well at Iowa St, and the fact that he made the pros showed he was a good college coach. The pros are totally different, is Rick Pitino not a great coach? Ok, then. And Im not a fan of Pitino, but he clearly knows the game and college basketball. USC and Floyd will be a good combo, he already has another great high school player (DeRozan) coming in next year.

Time will tell...

March 4, 2008  03:21 PM ET

Pac-10 teams dont have a clue when it comes to lopsided calls, follow the acc for a season and you'll see how bad it could be. Duke/UNC get more calls than anyone in the country.

mic'-actually SC wasnt a strong enough school for me...

March 4, 2008  03:43 PM ET

MSFC,

I know Duke usually gets calls, but it was a bit much when all 5 starters fouled out against Wake Forest in regulation. Whether they deserved, don't know. Didn't see the whole game.

March 4, 2008  04:06 PM ET

As a diehard Bruin fan, I hate USC. But I'm glad Tim Floyd is bringing attention to how bad the officiating is in the Pac-10. A bad foul call cost Arizona the upset win over Stanford. A bad call down the stretch changed the momentum in the game in UCLA's loss to USC. In nearly every Pac-10 game I've watched, the refs have been terrible.

March 4, 2008  04:31 PM ET

D.Sliq-if the games were called evenly then just by Dukes nature of play they would have a much higher number of fouls. With the Wake Forest game all 5 deserved to foul out. One of the fews time you can say Coach K didnt coach a good game. It was kinda funny to see all 5 foul out though.
