The Red Wings are making progress in their efforts to re-sign forward Dan Cleary. The sides have agreed on the length of the contract -- five years. But they're still negotiating the salary. Cleary, 29, is earning $675,000 this season, his third in Detroit. His new deal is likely to be worth between $2.5 million and $3 million.

whoop! whoop! Taking a discount! Staying with the club for another 5 years? Nice! This guy has lots of hockey left in him, and at 29, won't even be totally worn down by the contract's end. This is good news to start the day. Considering he can likely get $4mil in a 2 or 3 yr contract, him signing this deal is yet anouther coup for Holland.

Unexpected picture, considering he only played about 6 minutes of that game against the LEafs before getting his jaw blown up...

I cant wait to lock him up. He is great with the young guys...

Ya, if Avery is worth 3.5, than Cleary has gotta fetch more than that. I like Cleary, he does all the little things right and his coach rewards him for that. Hence the good numbers this year.

hey aris! you may like this story, in stevie Y's last year he once kicked dan cleary out of a team dinner right in front of the entire team because he overheard him saying "patrick roy" within the conversation he was having, seems cleary grew some hair on his chest that day and actually has become a helluva player and this is a great deal for the wings, if he signs!

LOL I love a good rivalry! Cleary is a good player and the Wings would be smart to sign him! But I did something even more dangerous, I walked through Vancouver Intl Airport wearing my Sakic jersey back in Aug of 2001! LOL I almost got killed but it was worth it! I p-i-s-s-ed off more people and got more rude comments than I ever thought I could for wearing a jersey! HAHAHAHA I loved it!

I can match that bostongm - one time in summer camp, all the kids wouldn't go to bed so all the camp co-ordinators wore New Jersey sweaters - then we all fell asleep.

Then i remember this one time when i tried trading my old car for a bike but i couldn't seem to trade it away - then i realize that my car had an air freshener shaped like a maple leafs jersey in it. I took it off and sold it for a pick (the ones u use to break ice with) and a new bike.
