Report: Favre has decided to retire
FOXSports.com has learned that legendary quarterback Brett Favre has decided to retire. In fact, it's believed he informed the Packers of his decision within the last few days, although it's unclear when Favre and the team will make his decision known. So barring an unforeseen last-minute change of heart, Favre will leave the game after 17 years, during which he built himself into a household name and a figure synonymous with grit, toughness and perseverance. Neither GM Ted Thompson nor head coach Mike McCarthy returned several calls left by FOXSports.com for confirmation. After flirting with retirement for the last few years, Favre will finally go out on the heels of one of the best seasons of his career.

Yes, this is quite sad...Jay Glazer is a good source though. I feel blessed to have watched such a great player.

I think it was the right time. It's a great way for him to go out, although it would have been great to see him win another Super Bowl. I think the NFL will miss him though. Maybe he'll become another announcer or commentator! :)

This is because they did not sign Randy Moss.
He had a great career, but he should have retired 3+ years ago. Either way, he is definitely a top QB in NFL history.

He's been the QB of the Packers for my entire adult life (since I was 10 years old).

Actually, I'm surprised by this. I really thought he'd be back. He's a shoe-in for the Hall but it's sad that now Peter King and the announcers won't be able to say how much fun he's having and can't fawn over him. Maybe they'll all get together and hold a candlelight vigil. Looks like the Pack will be drafting a QB or using the backup as his replacement. Who's the backup?

The end of a great era and career. Guess he didn't feel he had enough in the tank to give it a go for one more season. Bet we'll see him at the podium @ Canton not too long from now.
