Can Rodgers carry Packers?
Two executives in personnel for other NFL teams said the Packers stand a fighting chance with Aaron Rodgers. The NFC personnel man said he'd take Rodgers over other young quarterbacks such as Cleveland's Derek Anderson, San Francisco's Alex Smith, Arizona's Matt Leinart, Minnesota's Tarvaris Jackson, Buffalo's Trent Edwards and J.P. Losman, the Jets' Kellen Clemens, Miami's John Beck and Chicago's Rex Grossman. The scout said he'd take Denver's Jay Cutler and Tennessee's Vince Young over Rodgers.

If how he played against Dallas is any indication, the Packers should be in good shape. Besides, it's the NFC North.

Remember that Rodgers was supposed to be the #1 overall pick that year in the draft, but unexpectedly dropped to the Packers at #24. Many believe his slip to #24 was due to being only 6 ft 2 in., short for a prototype quarterback. He was also a protege of his college coach, and quarterback guru, Jeff Tedford. Previous quarterbacks under Tedford's tutelage include Akili Smith, Trent Dilfer, Joey Harrington, and Kyle Boller, all prior 1st round draft picks who did not exactly burn up the NFL.
Rodgers' relatively low draft position may have been due to many of the teams drafting between the second and 23rd positions having greater positional needs than quarterback.
The Packers drafted Rodgers knowing he would sit for a few years until Favre finally retired. This is always the best possible situation for a young QB. Learn for several years on the job under a veteran QB, especially the things like how to break down defenses, etc.
Rodgers will be good in Green Bay and the Packers have the utmost confidence in him. If they didn't, Rodgers never would have been the heir apparent for so long.

Which one of those "young QB's" has proved anything? Maybe Derek Anderson. But the rest may not even be starters on their teams come opening day. It's too early to tell whether he'll be any good. Jeff Tedford doesn't have the greatest rep for making NFL QB's. Maybe he learned something from Favre though.

Rodgers has impressed me by being a "Good Backup". He understood that Brett Favre was the QB of Wisconsin.....you know what I mean. He knew he had to be patient and wait his turn.
He has passed the test with flying colors and has learned alot from Brett. I hope he has a good career with the Packers!

Rodgers certainly has the tools to make it. Now perhaps with Favre retiring, he'll have the chance for "consistency" which has thus far been lacking from his growth opportunities. I for one, like the way he plays the position.

Agreed Shyn, he certainly showed the ability in that Dallas game. He has been watching Favre for a few years now so I am sure he learned a few things.

The tools to make it? He played good for 3 QTRS in his NFL life so far. And that Dallas game, no one was expecting him to play. So there was no film to watch and prepare for him. It's just a wait and see approach..

Doesn't matter how much film you watch, the OB still has to execute the plays and make the passes.

Aaron Rodgers following Brett Favre is similar to Steve Young waiting for Joe Montana to leave the 49ers, and Danny White waiting for Roger Staubach to retire from the Cowboys. Worked out well for both franchises, especially for Young and the 49ers.

If you have film on a QB you know his tendenices more. You can gameplan for him. If you have a guy coming off the bench who's been wearing a headset for 3 years you know nothing about him. And let's not put Rodgers in the same sentence with Steve Young just yet. How long have the Dolphins been looking for a QB since Marino left? How about the Cowboys after Aikman retired?

Exactly jj, I think we will see how much Brett really elevated this teams level of play next year.

Agreed we cannot put Rodgers in the same sentence as Steve Young. Film studying is as much studying offensive routes, schemes and motions as it is the QB. I am sure the offensive game plan the Pack had did not change because the QB change. Besides all the teams study the opposing QB tendencies yet they are still successful throwing for 3 and 4 TD. Its all about executing the play that is called making that accurate throw.

Can He? That is why they play the games. But I suspect there are about 20 plus teams that wish he was their QB going in to this season...

No one knows. There is promise, but time will tell, just like with any young QB. Heck, I still think Vince Young is an average passer at best in the league right now...and save your comments about dropped balls and crappy recievers...though true, the guy needs to work on his accuracy big time. But anyway, there is no "yes" or "no" answer here, just opinions. No one really knows and only time can answer...

Aaron Rodgers has one career TD pass. And people are saying he has the right tools and is ready to carry the Packers? Maybe you all can see talent and potential better then I can. But I need more than one good game(which he still lost BTW) to be sold on him.
