Celtics trade pick if out of top 2

If the Celtics don't leave Secaucus with the No. 1 or No. 2 pick, talk will turn from Greg Oden and Kevin Durant to trade scenarios. While the draft class appears to be stocked with talent, it may make more sense for the Celtics to part with a pick that translates into Brandan Wright, Al Horford, or Yi Jianlian; they already have more than enough young players. Adding a high-caliber veteran could be a better move at this juncture. Jermaine O'Neal or Kevin Garnett, anyone?

The Celtics haven't had a solid big man sense Robert Parish was in his heyday as part of the big 3. You can only ask Paul Pierce to do so much.

Garnet at center with Al Jefferson at 4 and Paul Pierce would be a solid core for a few years at least. Might help the Celtics get back to respectability.

If the C's end up with pick 3-6, they definitely have to go after O'Neal, Garnett, Stoudamire, maybe even Gasol. Unless they want to deal with a pissed off Paul Pierce all summer and next season

I am a huge celts fan. I agree with what everyone is saying. If they don't land in the top 2, they have to do whatever it takes to get someone whom can help them next year. Though players like Wright and Horford are solid, they will not have the impact that Durant or Oden will have. Al Jefferson is going to be huge next year, Pierce will be as he always is. If they can add one more top tier big man, they will be very tough in the East. I just hope they don't part with Gerald Green.

Does anyone else think that it is sad that the Draft Lottery appears to be getting more pub than either of the Conference finals. I personally could not care any less for any of the 4 teams left, but I digress. Is there any way the NBA could rig the lottery so the Celts get the top pick, the wolves the 2nd pick and the Suns the 4th pick. My fingers are crossed.

thats whay the Celtics need KG if they get him the whole offense opens up, which means his whole team becomes alot better, and Paul Pierce, can average 28 points agame and the whole offense just starts moving, it can be like the Lakers former 1-2 combination of Kobe and Shaq, but a little bit worse

May 22, 2007  12:47 PM ET

I think the better question is, 'would Minnesota trade a non 1 or 2 pick for KG?' As a Celtic fan, i would hope so, but i highly doubt it.

May 22, 2007  01:16 PM ET

I say stay away from Oden. He will be at retirement age in a couple of years. LOL

May 22, 2007  01:25 PM ET

Trade it to Lakers for Bynum !

May 22, 2007  01:37 PM ET

The curse of the Bambino is gone from the Sox, but the Celts still have the curse of Not Having Bird Anymore. There is little doubt that if they get Oden or Durant, whoever they pick will decide they just HAVE to start taking coke that very night. They are hapless...

May 22, 2007  01:44 PM ET

The celtics pick will be sponsored by Pepsi this year.

May 22, 2007  01:48 PM ET

Good point Smackey, I also doubt the Wolves would trade Garnett for a non-top 2 pick, tho McHale has done worse. I guess the other question is, would the Pacers trade Jermaine O'Neal for a non-top 2 pick? I say yes, since O'Neal is obviously sick of being in Indy. I would put more faith in this move happening than a Garnett deal, but I have zero faith in the C's front office, they'll manage to get fleeced somehow because they're idiots

May 22, 2007  01:50 PM ET

Oh, I meant to add that the Pacers might want a high pick for O'Neal since they stand to lose their pick to Atlanta and this draft is "so loaded"

May 22, 2007  01:54 PM ET

The Celtics will not trade for Garnett. They already have Wally. They didn't get along in Minnesota. No chance McFail will risk the backlash of a Garnett trade. Rememebr the Herschel Walker trade. Minnesota is still gun shy.

Trust me people.... I live in Boston and I can tell you that Pierce doesn't sell tickets here. Unless they get a full roster of stars to come in and contend, the Celtics will be in the same place next year and for years to come.

They could give me on-the-court tickets for free and I wouldn't go to one of their games...unless of course the opponent's are interesting.

May 22, 2007  02:09 PM ET

all of u Celtic fans, why don't they trade the pic to the Bosox and get Bi papi and Manny? get rid of Danny AINGE!!!

May 22, 2007  02:20 PM ET

with jermaine amare KG and gasol possibly all on the block, why should the celtics take a chance by taking anyone if they dont get either durant or oden. this actually makes sense trading away an unsure pick to get a KG or jermaine who still have a few years in them or Amare or gasol who with pierce can help the celtics contend almost every year

May 22, 2007  02:26 PM ET

NyStateOfMind330: SO R U GUYS GONA GIVE micheal Olowakandi some run? what about Wally world or Bassie? it doesn't matter who they draft, the celtics still suck.

May 22, 2007  02:31 PM ET

I live in Minneapolis. Even McHale wont give up KG unless he is blown away with an offer. The Celtics would have to give up a load of talent to get him. Say, Jefferson,G. Green, and the 3,4th pick, whatever may come of it. Overall Kevin McHale will do whatever he can to make the TImberwolves perpetually poor or re-tooling for years and years to come. McHale will probably end up paying Mark Madsen under the table and then losing draft picks again like the Joe Smith debacle.

rbriztal: I feel sorry for u guys, Kevin Garnett is not worth a high draft pick.

May 22, 2007  02:42 PM ET

How are you a fan of dabigfun? Garnett is not worth a high draft pick. Is a high draft pick going to give you 24 pt 14 rebs 4 assts every single night? Is that a guarantee?
