Shanahan spy allegation retracted

Incensed by a Yahoo! Sports report he once hired spies to tape practices of the Chargers several years ago, Mike Shanahan not only denied allegations but demanded a retraction. Yahoo! did just that Tuesday evening, eliminating in its entirety the reference to Shanahan's alleged spying incident. Wrote a Yahoo! editor: "We have eliminated a paragraph that, upon review, does not meet the editorial standards of Yahoo! Sports. We took immediate action to eliminate the content from our site as soon as we became aware of this matter." That Yahoo! made clear it took "immediate action" indicates they felt threatened by a potential defamation lawsuit from Shanahan. It's not clear whether the redacted reference will satisfy Shanahan.

Take their Superbowls away !!!!! Burn their Trophies, Elway is a BUM Shanahan is a Cheater, Evil, the DEVIL.... Oh I forgot we can only use those labels on the Patriots and Belichick,

Is Tony Kornheisher going to call Shanahan "Evil" this year in Monday Night Football.

Who is the mysterious Yahoo reporter. John Tomase of the Boston Herald. He is a great journalist who will write any story with no evidence or substantial credibility. Wait Tomase has a new story out, "Aliens from the Planet Krypton have been hired by the Patriots to conduct more spying". I hope John Tomase get's the Bill Buckner treatment from the Fans in New England over that story.

FINS DENY REQUESTING RYAN TAPE FROM BOSTON COLLEGE

Earlier on Monday, Peter King of SI.com wrote that Dolphins V.P. of football operations Bill Parcells asked Boston College coach Jeff Jagodzinski to send along video of every pass thrown by Eagles quarterback Matt Ryan in 2007.

A league source promptly pointed out to us that this is a no-no.

But Dolphins Senior V.P. of Media Relations Harvey Greene told us via e-mail that no such request was made by Parcells or by G.M. Jeff Ireland.

And even though it's technically a violation of the rules for an NFL team to request video directly from a college, it's not to prevent pro teams from getting a competitive edge. Instead, as NFL spokesman Greg Aiello told us, it's designed to keep college from being inundated with requests from 32 franchises

"technically a violation of the rules???" Is that the same as the Pats thing?

Wow. So is Denver one of the infamous 10-12 other teams? We'll see.

So you're saying that a story with no sources and no evidence is similar to the Patriots that actually HAD sources and HAD video tape evidence??? Sounds about right for a Patriots fan. If these allegations were true about Denver, wouldn't the Chargers--like the jets--step forward and say something to the NFL?

March 5, 2008  10:15 AM ET

Patriots fans are just angry we almost always seem to have their number whenever we play them.

March 5, 2008  10:17 AM ET

yeah, some guy makes up a story, later admits that he made it up and you are still running with it? Don't make me laugh.

How does it feel to have unsubstantiated rumors printed?

March 5, 2008  10:43 AM ET

I thought your "rumors" cost you guys a draft pick and a $hit load of money...how can you call them rumors still?
