Michigan alums lecture Rodriguez

If Rich Rodriguez didn't know what it means to be the Michigan football coach, he knows now. Two significant meetings with former U-M players -- Feb. 5 when 30 members of the 1969 team spoke to the Wolverines and Feb. 16 when more than 200 met with Rodriguez and his staff -- explained the honored seat, albeit in different ways. While the first meeting was designed to help the current Wolverines understand that the 1969 team also went through a dramatic culture change from Bump Elliott to Bo Schembechler, the second meeting with Rodriguez apparently took on a different vibe. "Everything I've heard about the second was the guys were telling Coach Rodriguez what they thought, even though I thought the purpose was to meet the coach and have the coach tell us what he thought about it," said former U-M All-American Dan Dierdorf, who was not at that reunion but spoke to people who attended.

Hey, another "story" from the DFP. They call it the Det FREE Press, because NOBODY will buy the damn newspaper

Reminds me of the barber shop scene from Hoosiers. "So, what kind of defense do you use coach? Zone defense is the only thing we've ever used and it's the only thing that will work."
"Well, it's been real nice talking to you fellas."
(sound of door slamming as coach walks out)

If I was R.Rod I would say "shut your mouth let me run this team you bunch of old wash ups. I could care less what your feelings are THIS IS MY TEAM." Punch each one of them in the face and walk out.

Figures Dierdorf would be runnin' his yap....he's not a fella we exactly brag about in Ann Arbor...especially since he's been Frank Gifford's personal proctologist for 20 years.

MICHIGAN IS DONE!!!! OHIO STATE FOREVER LOYAL FOREVER ROYAL

March 7, 2008  02:49 PM ET

Michigan football is not 'big time' football -- this program is overrated and overhyped -- like watching Army-Navy -- or any IvyLeague game -- if the alumni knew anything about football, they'd either be playing on Sundays or coaching -- this is like everyone who ever went to school telling teachers and administrators how to do their jobs

March 7, 2008  03:15 PM ET

I wonder how long it took a prominent alumnus to ask:

"Coach Rodriguez, you know it's OK here to give briefcases full of cash to referees prior to the game, right? For convenience, just give the season total to Dick Honig and he'll take care of the rest."

March 7, 2008  03:20 PM ET

i hope they didn't give him anything to file while they were there...might not get it back....

Ok... Let me see if I get this straight... A bunch of old UM alums... Decide to convene around the new coach of their football team... Who is obviously a huge ego-maniac... And think its a good idea to TELL him what they think???... Oh yeah... I bet that went over real well with Rodriguez... This is not going to end well.... But it should be entertaining to watch
