Will Packers turn to Green?

To help smooth the transition from 38-year-old quarterback Brett Favre to Aaron Rodgers, the Packers have shown some interest in a veteran who will be Favre's age by the time training camp starts in July. Former Chiefs Pro Bowl quarterback Trent Green became the latest entry into the sweepstakes to be Rodgers' veteran backup as the team contacted his agent, Jim Steiner, in recent days. Green is expected to speak with the team directly in the next day and might set up a visit. Green has already toured St. Louis and New Orleans, and has also heard from the Giants.

Yeah. They need a guy with Traumatic Brain Injury issues. <_< Just let Rodgers finally start and play. He's been waiting a long time. He'll be the first of a looooong line of quality backup QB's to start for the Packers. All the others are already retired or starting for other teams.

so, you get rid of the most durable player of all time, and you want to hire the biggest china doll to fill his roster spot? I know he'll only be the backup, but that's all the time Green needs to get hurt. If Rodgers falters at all, this guy is no insurance policy, that's for sure. If Rodgers goes down, whoever the 3rd stringer is had better be ready to play

Does anyone see a resemblance to a young Gary Busey? Maybe it's just the picture.
Lose a HOF quarterback and pick up an injury-prone pro bowl qb who will be the same as the one that just left when training camp arrives.
Even typing it out doesn't help it make sense.

That should read 'same age as the one', sorry it's early.

This thread suggestion has to be one of the DUMBEST if not the dumest thing I've ever seen posted anywhere! Why in heaven's name would any team, let alone the Green Bay PAckers, take on someone old and new who is damaged goods over someone they've had on their teams in a learning mode and is capable of starting at QB for their team? As to lady Peasalot's comment about the resemblance to Gary Busey, I'd have to ask between which plastic surgery operation are you referring to?

March 7, 2008  08:28 AM ET

The authentic younger Gary Busey. Not the 'I'm still young, see', Gary Busey.

Trent Green better wake up. another tragic case of somebody who just can't let it go.

Find something else to do, Trent. It's over. Think about your family.

I agree; having Green as an isurance policy is like driving with out insurance. NO COVERAGE!

Please no.

Am I crazy for thinking the Packers should send a late round pick to the Bills for Losmen?

March 7, 2008  09:59 AM ET

hyper I would agree but Losman wants to start and the Packers really don't want to bring someone in to compete just be a backup. Green can do that. Hopefully Rodgers can stay healthy which hasn't happened yet. For the first time in 16 years we actually care who the backup is going to be.

March 7, 2008  10:01 AM ET

I know Rodgers has, I guess, earned the right to start, but I think bringing someone like Losmen in and having an open competition for the starter's role wouldn't be a bad thing.

March 7, 2008  10:03 AM ET

But most likely Rodgers will be given the nod, they'll bring Nall back to be the back-up and draft a kid to be #3.

March 7, 2008  10:14 AM ET

stick with rodgers this kid has petintal

March 7, 2008  10:20 AM ET

lady Peasalot - YES, I see the Busey-Green connection! HA I've also always thought Drew Brees looked like Luke Wilson....

As far as the Pack bringin in Trent Green.... that's ridiculous. They should just bring Favre in as a part-time QB coach instead of bothering with Green. It's absolute idiocy for Green to even continue PLAYING this year after all of his injuries.

March 7, 2008  10:28 AM ET

If a player who is going into 4th or 5th year needs a veteran behind him, then you must not have confidence in him. If he didn't learn anything behind Favre, what is Green going to do for him? What - Steve DeBerg wasn't available?

March 7, 2008  10:35 AM ET

Yeah, I agree slug.

Let Rodgers show his stuff this season. If he falls apart, then look to make a move next year (Brady Quinn?). But making a move now is premature.

March 7, 2008  10:58 AM ET

Bring Steve DeBerg back imo.

March 7, 2008  11:09 AM ET

Oh please. Just let Rodgers start.

March 7, 2008  11:27 AM ET

You people don't read! Noone said they want to start Green over Rodgers. I think he would be a good back up. He has had two concussions, whooopi young had like eleven, and aikman had like nine. Trent would be a good role model and sounding board for Rodgers. I think if you can get himm for a back up , You should. You might need him, Rodgers hasn't been MR. tough guy, 59 snaps and 1 years on injured reserve!
