Jason Giambi failed an amphetamines test within the last year, the Daily News reported Wednesday. The newspaper reported that with the failed amphetamines test, Giambi has been subjected to six additional tests for one year. The newspaper did not cite any sources in its report. Giambi declined comment to the newspaper before the New York Yankees' 7-3 loss to the Boston Red Sox on Tuesday night.

I am a die-hard Yankees fan but I gotta tell ya, this guy may be the cancer that finally rots that clubhouse for good if they don't get rid of him now. Torre will pay the price if they don't.

Why continue to test him when you know that he is positive for drugs and all this other crap? Just plain anjd simple suspend or arrest him.

May 23, 2007  08:56 AM ET

I dont get it!! If i get caught taking speed i get arrested. A MLB player gets tested and comes back positive and months later they talk about possible suspension. Maybe they need to arrest a couple of drug takers in baseball and stick their **** in jail and others might think twice about taking them.

George's boy! Way to go...

May 23, 2007  09:01 AM ET

He's already an admitted drug user. Now it's two different drugs. Too bad baseball doesn't have the scones to do something about it.

May 23, 2007  09:02 AM ET

giambi? drugs? i'm totally SHOCKED!

May 23, 2007  09:05 AM ET

Big surprise...

Eject him from the league (permanently) and prohibit eligibility to the hall of fame. period.

Freakin' hilarious with how puch press is given to such a tool, playing for a tool team, under the management of tools. go nationals, they are a better team anyway........

May 23, 2007  09:16 AM ET

Is this really news? This guy **** this year because he tested positive & had to get off of God only knows what he was taking. As a Yankee fan I NEVER wanted this guy, they should have went w/ a platoon of Tino Martinez & Nick Johnson @ the time. I have to say one of the worst moves ever by the Yankees. The Comeback Player of the year award & a token can get you on the Subway in NY, oh wait, the Subways dont use tokens anymore, so the award & token are pretty much worthless, just like Giambi

May 23, 2007  09:31 AM ET

while i do not condone what the man has one, does anyone else find it funny that 3 days after he came out saying baseball should apologize for their role in the steroid era that his failed test became public? that result is only known by mlb as the lab just does the testing and seals the results in an envelope and sends them to mlb. giambi and his lawyers should sue baseball over the leaking of his failed test result as it violates the clause in the current labor agreement where a first failed test for greenies was to be kept secret. and this is why no one else is coming forward... selig and the rest of baseball cant be trusted to keep their word and during all this barry bonds who also failed a greenies test last year gets a free pass

May 23, 2007  09:36 AM ET

How is it that Giambean and Bonds fail amphetamines tests and don't get suspended. Something ain't right!!!!! Selig, do YOUR job!

May 23, 2007  09:36 AM ET

Tell me something that will actually shock me and be real news. This guy is such a joke it's ridiculous. No, actually it's funny now. Human thinking just boggles the mind sometimes. How someone can throw away the priviledge of being a pro baseball player to take some "performance enhancing" drugs is beyond me. Do you know how many good ball players stay in the minors? Players that probably could come up and take Giambi's spot easily. It's just ridiculous how these players are acting......shame on them and shame on society for not putting them in their place a long time ago. I agree with Beast, lock them up. Maybe that will teach them a lesson. Then again maybe not.....some of these guys are a little over arrogant (a.k.a. Barry Bonds).

It is truly sad when athletes cheat, break the law, or act in an unprofessional manner. They want to be considered professionals, yet if a person in any other profession has frequent encounters with the police, fails drug tests, or cheats in their field in any way, they lose their job and credibility. Why is baseball any different? Jason Giambi is embarrassing the game and tarnishing it's good name. It is time that Bud Selig act a little more decisively and stop sitting on the fence with this issue. Suspend violators.

Remarkable timing...does Karl Rove work for MLB now?

May 23, 2007  09:54 AM ET

The Daily News would not even cite a source, which leaves me a little suspicious about their reporting. One can usually get a t least "a high ranking official" in SOME office somewhere.

If it turns out to be true, though, I say ditch Jumbo. I have been defending this guy on his honesty and if he has been drugging all along, that's it. Just release him.

May 23, 2007  10:02 AM ET

When did this test take place? As much as a year ago. Likely longer back than a year. Giambi is taking responsibility for his actions and calling out MLB to do the same. And, guess what, the powerful owners and managers dont like it. Anyone could have predicted this move by MLB. Anytime anyone takes a stand and does the right thing in professional sports they get blasted.

May 23, 2007  10:07 AM ET

What good name??? Drew C... Cheating has always exsisted and a majority of professional athletes are on illegal substances. Its just that now it is becoming evident in baseball. If it is not amps then its roids, most of the guys are doing something to get by day in day out. They are asked to do too much for too long because of consumer demands. Look at the NFL trying to add a game to the regular season. Do you think the players get to vote and have their vote counted. GREED!!!
