Daniel Briere reiterated Monday he wants to remain a Buffalo Sabre, and the free agent-to-be indicated he'd accept the famed hometown discount.

There are some things more important then money... Is maybe 1 or 2 million worth telling you're three sons that you are packing up and moving to another team even though you could've stayed at home. It's not like Briere is being shipped out and has no choice, I think it makes things more difficult for him and a lot more interesting for us all.

Please- this isn't the old NHL. Players will maximize their value while they can. Once Drury gets a huge contract extension, Briere will be the odd man out. Tampa Bay, Washington, and Nashville are all deep-pocketed buyers, and will aggressively go after Briere.
