Bulls interested in Collison, Gasol

It's a safe bet GM John Paxson will inquire on longtime Bulls favorite Nick Collison's availability now that the Sonics jumped to No. 2 and will land either Greg Oden or Kevin Durant. It's likely Paxson also will revisit talks with the Grizzlies regarding Pau Gasol now that they fell all the way from the top pick to fourth after the lottery

Jay from Chicago! says: Collison would be good if he comes dirt cheap (referring to trade scenarios not money) but they really need a back to the basket player. I like Hibbert if he stays in the draft. But him at the mouth of the rim and throw him the ball. He should at least get fouled a lot at 7'2'' -270 if not score. Otherwise trade gordon and the 9th pick for Garnett or Gasol. That would give you a starting five of Duhon, hinrich, Deng, garnett, Wallace and leave a strong bench. Additionally, they could trade the 9th pick to Portland straight up for either Aldridge or Randolph (Unlikely) since the rumor is whoever drafts Oden is going to have to make a play for Conley Jr. who should still be there at 9.

tall white guys are worthless in the NBA...unless they are foreign....Gasol it is!

May 23, 2007  10:00 AM ET

That is some lineup Earnedit. Dream on....Why would the T-Wolves trade Garnett for Gordon, when they are already overloaded at guard, and the 9th pick when they already have the 7th pick? The 9th pick isn't going to get you Aldridge or Randolph either. That pick gets you a project or a role player.

The Grizz are in a financial hole...they may give up Gasol for less than what a lot of people think. And with them only getting the 4th pick, they may just decide to blow it up and be bad to get to some manageable contracts. Adding Collison as a somewhat competent post player isn't bad. He fits in with what Chicago is trying to do. The Bulls may have played this just right not mortgaging the future. I have bashed them and their fans, but things may be coming together even more for the Bulls.

I think Spencer Hawes as well as Roy Hibbert would fit great with the present Bulls, no need for trades, just resign Noc, and extend Deng and Gordon. We can get a great Big in the draft. Its not like the Bulls bottomed out in the playoffs, they swept the HEat and then lost a 6 game series, which could have been a 7 game series to the very good Pistons team had they not blown the first half lead in Game 3.

tarheeljoe30,
I think you're being a little too optimistic. The Heat weren't 'right', and Detroit lost interest. I mean, they came out in the 3rd in your building and put game 6 away (for all intensive purposes). Again, is the objective to win now or later? The other thing no one talks about is if it's good enough to somehow make it to the Finals. We haven't discussed what happens to any eastern team(other that Detroit)that makes it to the Finals. Gasol and Randolph are available for cheap(er). At least dangle Nocioni(sign and trade) and another 'not too earth shattering' chip, right?

In response to mnbias' comment. Minnesota should jump all over the gordon trade idea becaus ethen they would have gordon, foye, davis in their starting line up and use the 7th and 9th pick to draft some very talented players or make more trades. Let's face it, you guys aren't going anywhere with your current line up and Garnett is certain to opt out of his contract after next year. Why lose him for nothing. Additionally, no guard you guys have on your roster is better than Gordon!

May 23, 2007  12:19 PM ET

Outstanding... You guys are like so awesome. Thank you

May 23, 2007  12:41 PM ET

You're right Earnedit, the Wolves aren't going anywhere with the current lineup, and they have no guard better than Gordon. I'm not sure I'd trade Foye for Gordon even up though. Your proposed trade does not make the Wolves a better team, they can get more for Garnett, and the salaries don't match. Will he opt out? Maybe. I think the wolves need to blow up the roster in an effort to dissuade Garnett from leaving. Marko Jaric anyone? Anyone?

Gasol, Randolph, even K-Mart make more sense for you guys. They can be had cheaper. Big Ben and Garnett fill similar roles on defense and those salaries are a lot to pay for redundancy. One quality post up scorer puts you in the conference finals if you don't give away too much to get him.

k11: You are right, I guess I am playing the optimist but honestly I really believe Paxon is building in a good direction. I mean not every team can be like the Heat did and build it all in one year. I don't think Randolph would fit into Chicago's locker room mentality because he is not defnsive minded. Collison could work but the Sonics shouldn't ask too much for him. I still stick with my theory that our only hole is a scoring big man which we can fill with the draft. Our other biggest enemy is inexperience and we are pushing farther in the playoffs every year. To each his own opinion tho. I have faith in Paxon tho, I feel he is doing exactly what Joe D did in Detroit, which by the way took time

You Minnesota Peolpe are hater it kill me and I live in Minnesota.
You guys hate to see KG go to Chicago where he sould be and belong.
Because he will become a Big star there, He maybe big ticket in Minn,
he will a Bigger Star in the Chi. And we are not give up Baby Gordan.
KG go to Chicago you got KG, BIG BEN, BABY GORDAN, CAPTAIN KIRK, AND THE BIG DENG THEORY, I see at less 3 or 4 rings for KG and the Bulls and we all want that for KG. So stop haten and let my man go get his rings because your boy Mcfale LOL I mean Mchale is not going to get it done.
Thank You
Mr. Ty

Tonyan that would be a sweet line up but unless KG leaves due to free agency don't u think Minny will make the Bulls give up some of those pieces u listed for KG?

May 23, 2007  01:48 PM ET

I hate hearing suggestions to trade Gordon. He's lead the team in scoring two straight years now, can't we keep the leading scorer on the team ever? It's like the ultimate curse, if you lead the Bulls in scoring (and your name isn't Michael Jordan) you will be traded.

May 23, 2007  01:56 PM ET

I would love to see the Bulls trade Duhon & Nocioni for Randolph (Duhon for Collinson straight up would be ok too), but Portland might not be willing to move Randolph for that cheap. If not, I'd be willing to give up Hinrich and Nocioni for Randolph- assuming Acie Law is still available in the draft.

May 23, 2007  02:08 PM ET

As a life time KU fan AND Bulls fan... Please bring back Mr. Inside and Mr. Outside!! Kirk and Collison would be a great reunion!!

May 23, 2007  02:25 PM ET

you don't give up hinrich. you sign and trade noc and gordon for randolph or jermaine oneal or throw in your draft pick and make an offer to minn(which they will decline politely). but i wouldn't mind a lineup of hinrich, safalosha, deng, randolph or better yet J Oneal with big ben in the middle. gasol would be worth the trade too but while collinson would be a nice pickup i wouldn't give anything more then noc in a sign and trade for him.

May 23, 2007  02:44 PM ET

I don't think you lose much by giving up Hinrich for Law (or Conley, but he'll be gone by 9), and I think it'd be a tremendous gain to get Randolph/O'Neal/Gasol. However, it's best not to mess w/ a team's chemistry too much when they're doing well- so scratch Hinrich & insert draft pick. DP+Duhon+Nocioni=R/O/G. That gives the Bulls the scoring post threat they need, while mainting their core outside scorers (Hinrich, Gordon, & Deng) plus Big Ben roaming the lane & Thomas + Safalosha giving them important minutes off the bench. I smell finals.

May 23, 2007  02:44 PM ET

Nick would be good in Chicago. He played well with Kirk in Kansas for the 3 years he was there. He deserves somewhere better than Seattle.

May 23, 2007  03:23 PM ET

Hibbert's going back to Georgetown!!!

May 23, 2007  04:28 PM ET

One of the Bulls biggest problems was the fact that they were small in the backcourt as well as the frontcourt. This is why I believe Collison to the Bulls is completely bogus. They need to aquire a couple seven footers(Hawes, Haywood, Darko), and that should make them a 50+ wins team next season.
