Red Sox ace Josh Beckett has a back problem, and right now, nobody is sure just how serious it is. The Red Sox do not know if Beckett will be able to make his next spring training start on schedule or how long he will be out after back spasms forced him to be a scratch just before yesterday's scheduled start against the Marlins.

The thought of watching a Marlins game would get me yawning so I can easily imagine Josh's feelings about pitching the game.

Get him something more interesting to do and his back spasms should clear right up.....

they told him his next start is against the pittsburghs b squad

This is not good if this goes on into april

I am not worried about Beckets Back spasms, heck, you can get back spasms for sleeping in an uncomforable position at night. Beckett will be ready for Opening Day

Really! It's spring training. Guys get spasms and sore muscles. That's why we have spring training in the first place.

It's ok if Becketts back doesn't hold up... After all... They did sign Bartolo Colon... And last week... He had a great bullpen session... Problem solved

First an overpaid Manny and now Beckett's back problem. It's the beginning of the end. The curse is back. No more World Championships for another 90 years. Panic in the Red Sox nation.

the mouthy cocky intolerant BoSox players and fans could learn a little humility if Beckett were actually to sit out most of the season -- they always laugh at other teams' injuries and think they are immune from such bad things -- it's all part of the game and all that -- on the other hand, the Boston/NewEngland advocates at ESPN and elsewhere like to talk injuries -- remember GoldenBoyBrady and his cast? -- and then crow when the 'injured' player returns and plays well -- baseball was much more civil and enjoyable when Boston wasn't winning

Go Sox another pennant

Silverblack - you need to chill or jump off a bridge and just resign yourself to the fact that the best teams in professionals sports right now are the Celtics, red Sox, and patriots -- Get used to it

From the look on his face, I'd say he is surprised nobody told him he had a back porblem. I must say, yes I agree with"...forced him to be a scratch.." on the bottom of some reporter out there.

The Patriots? Knocked off by the super bowl champioans NY giants, keep bragging, young man, we will see what happens.... This one of yours slinky?

March 9, 2008  01:47 PM ET

Typo on the champions. Back spasms? cold front moving through florida right now, people sore and minor ackes and pains, normal for this time of the year.

March 9, 2008  01:48 PM ET

aches and pains...normal for this time of year....fat fingers...

March 9, 2008  01:51 PM ET

oh no! we suck again!

March 9, 2008  02:38 PM ET

I agree Tony, not the Patriots and, also, not the Celtics . Who just won 18 games in a row??? It sure wasn't the Celtics. I'll give you the Red Sox until they don't make the playoffs in October.

at least the sox aren't filling the hospital like the mets, jeesh

March 9, 2008  04:13 PM ET

Should have gotten Santana when they had the chance. Put the dagger into the Yankee do gooders you evil empire!!!!

March 9, 2008  05:13 PM ET

This is why you never have enough pitching !!! They are like a piece of glass they can break at any time.

March 9, 2008  07:36 PM ET

hey Larry B -- the last time I checked the overrated overhyped soft-schedule Patriots did not win the SuperBowl .... and the Celtics haven't won anything meaningful yet ... and we'll just have to see about the BoSox this year .... they do look good on paper, that's for sure.

He lost his footing throwing some warm up pitches and "tweaked" his back...lets not act like this is a blister and start w/ a bunch of drama
