USC defensive tackle Fili Moala was arrested this week in Newport Beach for obstructing and delaying an officer after police responded to a fight at a bar, a police official confirmed today. Moala, 22, was not cited for being part of the fight, which occurred March 2 at Hoagie Barmichaels in Newport Beach, said Sgt. Evan Sailor of the Newport Beach Police Dept. Officers from the Newport Beach and Irvine police departments and the Orange County Sheriff's Dept. responded to the scene and ordered those outside the bar to the ground as they attempted to sort out what happened, Sailor said. "He got down on the ground and complied with orders but as they gave more orders he went back into the bar," Sailor said. "He apologized, but was arrested."

No 54, the cops were trying to sort out a situation and one pampered jerk thought he could ignore the rules.

You never win an arguement with the man. Try these helpful expressions when dealing with law enforcement: yes sir, no sir, yes officer, no officer, if there is nothing further may I go now please.

Then, DON'T head back into where the trouble is located.

Blaming his arrest on some imagined 'quota' is really myopic of you.

Pete, are you losing control? Not the discipline one might expect from the annual preseason annointed champions. Tsk tsk tsk.

March 9, 2008  06:46 PM ET

Nothing to suggest that he did anything out of line? Besides being arrested?

Smart people move AWAY from trouble, especially after assuming the position. College material, I am sure. I refer to the helpful phrases listed above.

"From everything I've read"? Believing everything you read is probably just as dangerous, dood--if not more.

Springer final thought: I believe 90% of police to be reasonable, yet 100% of them are impatient--downright rude sometimes--with those that do not follow instruction. Moving towards the source of the action instead of leaving--and being 6 foot whatever 240-380 lbs. (don't know this individual, just guessing)--make one a big target, too for a few reasons.

How many other folks were arrested in this incident--from what you have read? I mean, if they were arresting random people for their 'quota', they must have nailed 10-20 people. that or this guy has the worst luck on the planet.

don't worry, it can only take the attention off Reggie Bush taking down this program.

localboy...just noticed your comment on the OU player arrested on other T&R posting today.

Interesting.

So it's just when USC players that get the benefit of your doubt?

March 9, 2008  08:26 PM ET

Oh, I stand corrected--this man is INNNNN OOOOO CCCCCENT. Not a giant dude getting in the way of police trying to do their jobs when there was already confusion and a hostile situation involved.

He DID say he was sorry, you might argue. I bet he did. Before or after he was arrested?

Remedial thinking, indeed. He made a mistake, he messed up. Stop making excuses for his thuggish, entitled athlete behavior.

Did he have his jersey on? How would the police know they were supposed to let him go?

March 9, 2008  08:28 PM ET

And clearly, you were there--or you believe the thug's story before the police automatically.

SC is having some legal troubles recently. Excellent...

March 9, 2008  10:54 PM ET

Elvis, you may not believe this, but there ARE actually places in the good ol' US of A where the police officers are NOT the honest and helpful people that appear on Mr. Roger's Neighborhood.

March 9, 2008  11:14 PM ET

Let's also keep in mind the fact that he was arrested by Newport cops, who are notoriously terrible at their jobs.
