McCarty comeback on hold
Darren McCarty, attempting a comeback after not playing NHL hockey since last April, was at Joe Louis Arena to get treatment for a rib cage injury. "He's not available to practice at this point," Babcock said. "Obviously, it's discouraging for Mac."

the detroit free press ran an long article on him and how he left his wife( in calgary) a dear john letter that he was bolting back to detroit to try to resurrect his career and this was 36 hrs before they were to go to the tropics together as a gift she had given him after his 2nd stint in rehab, next to the letter is her credit card that he gave back to her and promptly left a 20,000 tab on it , 10,000 of it from gambling at the very casino she worked and all this after she paid for both his stays in rehab, sounds like to me he's just hoping the grass is greener on the otherside of the fence but he's still got huge issues, thankfully babcock says 'i don't know him', "if he can't keep up with the speed at this level he'll be gone", and i personally don't if he's worth the risk!

well bostongm, everybody around the wings will tell you they're personally pulling for him to get his life back together again and before he left the organization he was very well liked and respected among his peers within the organization and even fans you talk to will tell you what a great guy darren mccarty really is, but as you probably already know addiction of any kind changes people( i learned this from watching celebrity rehab on vh1 every week, lol ) and this sounds like it has made mac a very selfish person which is why this idea of bringing him back concerns me, which darren mccarty is going to show up, "the great teammate"? or like you said "the a**hole"? stay tuned!

My bet is he will not see the ice at all, maybe one or two games. There's no fighting in the playoffs, so there is no need for his services. .

Anyone else notice that one of the headlines on SI's NHL page says "Red Wings recall blueliner McCarty?" No wonder hockey is having problems. Apparently even the people assigned to cover the sport can't get things right.
I am pulling for McCarty to get his life back in order, but I have no idea what he can offer the Wings at this point. There's only a month left in the regular season, so if he's going to show something, he better do it soon.

Leave a man's personal life out of it. What he does is not my concern. If the man can play the game, use him. If not go away. There are a lot of players in sports that are unsavory characters.

whats funny, there is no risk at all. None. If it doesn't work out, the only thing they lose out of it is a prorated amount of cap space that they don't need this year. great situation for the red wings i think.

Who doesn't have issues outside of their careers? We all do. But putting them on the pages of newspapers and on the internet is not right. They could have just said he was having "personal" issues and left it at that. I hope he come out of all of this and plays.

He's been playing the AHL - those young guys can really hit hard. Get well soon Mac - can't wait to see you back on the ice at the Joe!
