Newark soph commits to Texas
T.J. Ford and Kevin Durant are gone, but the shadows they cast on Longhorn basketball remain. Tristan Thompson, a coveted high school sophomore who watched them play on television, said that he will follow Ford and Durant to Texas. He committed to play for the Longhorns beginning in 2010-11. Thompson, a 6-foot-8-inch, 215-pound forward at St. Benedict's Prep in Newark, N.J., is the fifth-best sophomore recruit in the nation, according to Scout.com. St. Benedict's finished 24-1 and is ranked No. 2 in the nation by USA Today. The commitment is not binding until Thompson is eligible to sign in November 2009. He said he picked Texas over Duke, North Carolina and Florida, among others.

Why would a sophomore want to lock up his commitment when he still has 2 more seasons left? All it will do is make fans want to kill him when he changes his mind i.e. Eric Gordon.

That's such a long time from now. So many things can go on before he's ready to sign.

This story is so rediculous the NCAA needs to do better recruit enforcement and stop schools for accepting commitments of any kind to kids other than high school seniors
