Dunedin (Fla.) junior running back Adaris Bellamy, expected to be one of the top backs in the state in the fall, became USF's first oral commitment for 2009 when he gave a pledge to football coach Jim Leavitt on Saturday. Bellamy, 5-foot-10 and 219 pounds, already had offers from Clemson and Mississippi, and was being recruited by other top-tier schools, but he was sold on USF after visiting the Bulls' first practice Wednesday with Dunedin coach Mark Everett.

I like competition

March 10, 2008  11:42 AM ET

USF is definitely on the come-up. He seems like a good pick-up.

March 10, 2008  04:38 PM ET

It is hard to get excited about guys that are still a year away from being able to sign up. Too many change their minds.

March 10, 2008  04:51 PM ET

This school wil have scandal written all over it in no time. It just seems to make sense.

March 10, 2008  07:54 PM ET

Your talking about a team that got destroyed by an Oregon team that was without thier center peice how good could they possibly be.

March 10, 2008  08:33 PM ET

USF will be competing with the big boys. Recruits have short memories. They don't remember Charlie Ward or Vinny Testaverde. What they do know is that USF competed for a BCS Bowl game until November. USF is on their way up.

Oh really then how did the Uninversity of Notre Dame who was one of the worst teams in college footall manage to land the number one class. Alabama was 7-6 look at them. Miami didn't even make a bowl. I'll admit whos hot now has alot to do with the equation but recruits still have an apreciation for the old fasion powerhouses

Oh really IrishR#1 then how diid your irish who were one of the worst team in the nation manage a top 5 class. Look at the top 5 in recruiting, look who you see Miami, Alabama two great powerhouses with terrible seasons that got great classes. I'll admit who's hot now has alot to do with the equation but recruits still have an appretiation for powerhouses of old.

March 10, 2008  09:21 PM ET

USF could put a top level team on the field without burning a tank of gas. I believe the Q.B. at Stanford by the name of Crow may of played with this recruit? Dunedin, Fl. borders Clearwater where Crow played.

March 10, 2008  09:41 PM ET

He gave an oral commitment after watching 1 practice. I wouldn't get excited. Loyalty is scarce these days.

March 10, 2008  10:04 PM ET

I think it is utterly rediculous the NCAA doesn't do better recruit enforcement no way should they allow high school juniors to commit to anything

March 10, 2008  11:45 PM ET

USF is only getting all of these florida players because they've lowered their academic standards to the point that these kids can get into USF but not Miami, UF, or FSU. That's saying something, too, because those other schools have pretty damn low requirements.

fleckpsu06,

Do you know that for a fact or are you just assuming it to be true?

He won't be starting over Mike Ford.

March 12, 2008  02:54 PM ET

It can't hurt to have a two option backfield; especially if you need to rest your main guy, while still having him in the game as a decoy.

Didn't Mike Ford commit to my tigers
