North Gwinnett (Ga.) quarterback Mike Tamburo, who has a scholarship offer from Tulsa, is being heavily recruited by schools such as Alabama, Auburn, Clemson, East Carolina, Michigan State, South Carolina, South Florida, Tennessee, Texas Tech and Vanderbilt.

Unless his Uncle is a Dean at Tulsa, I think he may be going elsewhere (i.e. AL, AU, TN, SF, SC, Vandy).

March 11, 2008  09:39 AM ET

He's staying in the SEC. That's just a good assumption.

March 11, 2008  09:48 AM ET

Don't go to Alabama!! Saban is a jerk.

March 11, 2008  11:40 AM ET

Not saying he is bad. But can he be that good if schools in his own state are not going after him?

March 11, 2008  12:50 PM ET

Maybe not BR549. He's probably outside of Georgia's league and not a QB that would succeed in Johnson's offense at Tech.

Those other schools aren't bad.

March 11, 2008  02:41 PM ET

J Hova - Good point.

March 11, 2008  03:38 PM ET

The Vols would be perfect for this kid

March 11, 2008  03:56 PM ET

Trust me. Tamburo is not out of Georgia's league. We are recruiting and getting commitments from much better QBs. Tamburo is, IMO, just an above average QB. East Carolina, Michigan State, Vandy? Teams that exactly don't strike fear into the heart's of CFB fans.

March 11, 2008  04:21 PM ET

No they do not strike fear into fans. I'm not from Georgia. I was just going off of BR549's assumption.

March 11, 2008  04:28 PM ET

Just come on in to 'Bama, and roll.

March 11, 2008  05:57 PM ET

ok, wait a minute? Maybe I'm reading this wrong? Out of Georgia's league? You mean the same UGA that pulls down a Top 5 or 10 recruiting class EVERY year, the same UGA that's preseason #1 and finished last year #2, the same UGA that pulled Matt Stafford, the #1 prep QB a few years ago? The only teams that are "out of Georgia's league" play on Sundays. Otherwise, we're pretty much sitting at the top of the collegiate "league".

March 11, 2008  06:25 PM ET

Yea I would have to agree. I don't really think any player is out of UGA's league. They are notoriously year in and year out one of the top football programs. I hate UGA, but I won't deny the fact that they are good.
On top of all that, it really is not that unusual for bigger schools to recruit outside of their own states, especially when they are so close to other powerhouse high school football states like Florida and Texas.

March 11, 2008  10:56 PM ET

GO TO OHIO STATE. OSU FOREVER LOYAL FOREVER ROYAL!!!!!!!!!!!!

March 12, 2008  03:23 PM ET

Calm down UGA fans. What I meant was that this kid is below Georgia's standards. BR549 was smart enough to know what I was saying. Too bad MajDawg1 was not.

March 12, 2008  03:47 PM ET

OK, ok..."outside of Georgia's league" led to misinterpretation. You're back on my Christmas card list...although there is that "smart enough" comment.
GO DAWGS!!!

March 12, 2008  05:41 PM ET

UGA doesn't need him hah, they know he cant start for a powerhouse program like theirs. Besides, Stafford is around for 2 more years, the Dawgs won't want to go after a big time QB until Stafford is senior. (meaning a true freshman could come in and start that next year).

March 12, 2008  05:59 PM ET

Nah, UGA will recruit a QB probably after this coming season, redshirt 'em, and send the QB on the field. At least, that's my prediction. Georgia also has Logan Gray, one year under Stafford. He's got a good history as far as High School goes. But with that, of course Georgia would still need to seek some depth.

March 12, 2008  07:57 PM ET

UGA should go ahead and recruit him or another top QB NOW. Stafford stinks and having more competition at that position will either push up his performance or push him out of the way.

March 12, 2008  09:21 PM ET

Ramblin gator, I know you only said that Stafford sucks because he has beat GT the last two years (& Georgia has beat Tech 7 straight). Oh yeah and he beat **** last year, and lead UGA to #2 ranking. I can see how you can say he sucks. Maybe your just not smart enough to know what a real QB looks like after watching all those great GT QB's through the years. (Reggie ball) what a joke.

March 12, 2008  10:02 PM ET

If you really want to know about this guy, he has the ability to play at a school like UGA, but he would fit better in a system like texas tech. Trust me, i played agaisnt him this year in the state playoffs, and he killed us.
